Role Purpose
The Regional Sales Manager is responsible for building and growing a diverse portfolio of accounts in for Swire Shipping’s Transpacific services in a large geographic territory east of the Rockies. The ideal candidate will excel at connecting with customers, understanding their needs, and effectively communicating the value of our services offered. Regional travel is required.
Role Accountabilities
Essential Functions
- Call on existing and prospective customer accounts to secure new or grow existing business resulting in increased volume/revenue for Swire Shipping
- Create and cultivate relationships with existing, new, and prospective customers and conduct effective sales presentations to generate business, which results in the realization of new business opportunities for the company.
- Identify new business prospects, utilize industry network & personal contacts, and establish goals and objectives for obtaining invitations for Swire Shipping to bid on and secure business.
- Engage in activities including approved travel and customer entertainment intended to increase Swire Shipping market share, business, volumes, and corresponding margins within the G&A budget guidelines established annually.
- Provide timely follow-up to customers, utilizing effective internal and external communications.
- Complete all sales and activity reports thoroughly and provide requested data on a timely basis.
- Collaborate internally with pricing, customer, service, and operations to deliver customer solutions and resolve problems.
People Management
- The Regional Sales Manager will work closely with employees and will require a demonstration of strong competency and exemplary trustworthiness.
- The incumbent will coordinate and collaborate with other members of the Swire Shipping team.
- The incumbent must be respectful of individuals of different cultural differences and personalities.
- This position will also interact with the public, client officials, and contractors.
Crisis Management
- Make every effort to be aware of and understand your role in the event of a crisis.
- Make every effort to attend any relevant training, simulations and or meetings relating to Crisis Management.
- Perform your role as best as possible in a calm and collaborative manner in line with the relevant policy and procedures in the event of a Crisis.
- Provide input and feedback towards the ongoing improvement of the Crisis Management framework and procedure.

Key Qualifications & Skills
Qualifications
- Associate degree in marketing or related field.
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing or related field preferred.
- A minimum of 4 years of outside sales experience.
- Sales and Marketing experience required.
- Logistics experience preferred.
- Experience working in ocean shipping is preferred.
- Must be able to travel regionally as required.
- Current valid driver's license is required or other evidence of equivalent mobility.
- Experience with Microsoft Office and Salesforce
Professional Skills
- Must be able to communicate effectively, in written and oral form.
- Skill in strong value-added selling, negotiating, and consultation.
- Established relationships with key industry/vendor contacts preferred.
- Established relationships with key account contacts within the Transpacific trade route preferred.
- Ability to use interpersonal skills in difficult situations.
- Strategic thinker with high analytical capabilities combined with active listening and organizational skills.
- Self-starter, highly organized, and able to work with minimal supervision.
- Strong reading comprehension with highly detail-oriented review and thought process.
- Must have the analytical skills to provide an objective evaluation of alternatives and provide recommendations to management.
- Strong interpersonal skills required to work within an international business environment and multiple teams.
- Must have the ability to work independently with orientation to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting strict regulatory and internal deadlines.
- Ability to reprioritize workload to meet immediate requirements.
- Ability to make timely and sound decisions while demonstrating good judgment.
- Skill in being flexible and able to handle changing priorities over multiple priorities, tasks, and situations.
- Familiarity with the maritime and/or transportation industries preferred.
Physical Demands
To successfully perform the essential duties of this position, an individual must be able to sit or stand for prolonged periods at a desk. The work environment consists of exposure to physical conditions typical of a normal office environment. Most of the job is performed while sitting, although the work may require occasional standing or walking and/or the lifting and carrying of small objects up to approx. 25 lbs.
