Key Responsibilities
- Responsible for development and continuous improvement of all chemical formulations to deliver the desired result based on safety, quality, productivity, and cost control.
- Work closely with raw material suppliers for technical support.
- Ensure technical specifications of finished treated paper is maintained and correctly defined to deliver the desired product performance.
- Ensures quality test methods meet the needs of the business and ensure customer satisfaction.
- Conduct testing in Paper Treating defined to be critical to the process.
- Understand Paper Treating technology and processes and the role played in the finished product.
- Support and maintain robust process setups/centerlines for various products on each production line to ensure that product quality and efficiency are meeting or exceeding budgeted rates.
- Establish Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) based on best practices and effectiveness, to include training of associates, implementation, and follow-up verification.
- Works closely with downstream processes to gather feedback and data on the product performance for continual improvement opportunities.
- Nonconformance product review with root cause analysis and countermeasure proposals.
- Monitors and tracks inventory of all chemical components weekly. Orders resin in PT on a weekly basis based on the schedule and consumption factors.
- Conducts and follows raw material trials related to paper, resins, additives, and formulations for new developments to support the business needs.
- Maintains cleanliness and organization of the PT Laboratory.
- Maintains calibration of equipment, appropriate quality and productivity records.
- Assume basic Management tasks of the PT Department Manager as necessary.
- SAP Key User for department.
- 2-3 years of Laboratory, Quality, Process Engineering, or Chemical Operator experience.
- 2-3 years in a manufacturing environment, preferably in a chemical setting.
- 2-3 years in Paper treating technology or production.
- High school diploma/GED or College Degree is Preferred
- Strong skill set in the use of Office suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel etc.)
- Capable of Basic Computer Operating with Outlook, SAP, WinCC and work with other software/equipment
- Lean/Six Sigma training and practical experience is preferred.
- Candidate will be exposed to loud noise that may exceed 87 decibels.
- Candidate must be able to complete task under extreme hot climate temperatures internally on the shopfloor, which can exceed 110 degrees F.
- Candidate must have the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
- Can easily pivot from working independently to part of a larger team.
- Exhibit teamwork, positive attitude, and openness to new challenges.
- The PT Department embraces the diversity of languages, but most, if not all, communication verbally and written is preferred in English to successfully complete the appropriate scope of work.
- Work location is Barnwell, SC United States. This job operates in a manufacturing environment.
- Be expected to stand for a full shift. Employee will be required to perform climbing stairs, walking, squatting, kneeling, or driving lift truck duties at variable frequency.
- There is occasional lifting that may require handling of components which can weigh up to 50 lbs.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit and walk and talk or hear; and use hands to finger, handle, or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms.
- The employee must occasionally climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
- Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee will regularly operate HMI, communicate by talking on radio, and walk constantly throughout 12 hours shift.
- This is a full-time position, which works 12 hours shift rotation 6:45 to 7:00 days and nights.
