This role ensures compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, focusing on environmental compliance, occupational health and safety, and workers' compensation. The position involves overseeing safety programs, wellness initiatives, and environmental permitting, while acting as a Subject Matter Expert for EH&S-related matters.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate industrial health, ergonomic, and wellness programs for associates.
- Collaborate with site leaders to determine EHS goals and develop necessary programs.
- Review and integrate EHS policies, programs, and metrics to align with business goals.
- Prepare, implement, and manage the site's EHS management system with a risk-based approach.
- Effectively communicate risks, issues, ideas, and proposals to all levels of the organization.
- Ensure all necessary permits and licenses to operate the facility are maintained.
- Oversee occupational safety and health programs, working with external health care providers and regulatory agencies.
- Handle Personally Identifiable Health Information (PHI) in communication with medical providers.
- Ensure associate safety relating to environmental conditions, machine safety, and ergonomics.
- Monitor and maintain records for hazardous waste and materials, ensuring compliance with regulations.
- Provide leadership for the Emergency Response Team in the event of safety or environmental hazards.
- Lead the continuous improvement of safety and environmental programs and initiatives.
- Perform jobsite assessments, focusing on unsafe conditions and work behaviors, ensuring corrective actions are taken.
- Lead inspections and investigations for OSHA, EPA, and other regulatory bodies.
- Train associates as necessary on safety and environmental topics.
- Conduct compliance assessments and develop action plans based on regulatory requirements.
- Provide oversight of day-to-day environmental, health, and safety operations.
- Education: Required: Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Chemical, Electrical, Mechanical), Environmental, Health and Safety, or related field. Preferred: Functional Safety Certifications, Certified Safety Specialist, Certified Industrial Hygienist, Six Sigma certifications.
- Experience: Required: Minimum of 3 years leading EH&S in a manufacturing operation, with at least 10 years in a manufacturing environment. Preferred: Experience in medical device, chemical, or pharmaceutical manufacturing; knowledge of OSHA PSM; experience with ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and ISO 50001 compliance.
- Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office, continuous improvement practices, environmental compliance management, and project management. Strong communication, analytical, and leadership skills, with the ability to work independently and handle conflict resolution. Experience administering and interpreting regulations from OSHA, EPA, DOT, and other regulatory bodies.
- Promote a safety-first culture through policies and practices.
- Drive measurable improvements in safety performance, including incident rates and other key metrics.
- Lead effective safety and environmental projects and programs to enhance workplace safety and sustainability.
