Key Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations for air, effluent, solid waste, and hazardous waste at manufacturing sites.
- Identify, assess, and recommend approaches to maintain compliance and resolve potential non-compliance efficiently.
- Provide leadership to a team of laboratory technicians and engineers, focusing on performance management and professional development.
- Align environmental strategies to meet company and site objectives, including sustainability goals.
- Support the development and implementation of regulatory compliance projects and programs.
- Promote employee engagement to achieve environmental goals.
- Interact with senior leadership, regulatory agencies, and subject matter experts.
- Manage complex environmental permitting and regulatory tracking.
- Oversee resources, such as consultants and staff, to prepare accurate and timely compliance reports and permits.
- Investigate root causes for environmental incidents, including near misses.
- Manage the laboratory, including quality testing for pulp dryer operations.
- Participate in a weekend rotation team for environmental oversight.
- Bachelor's degree in science, engineering, environmental sciences, or a related field.
- 8 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, with a focus on environmental compliance; experience in the forest products industry is a plus.
- Familiarity with regulatory and electronic reporting systems (e.g., Title V, MACT, DMR) is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of emerging environmental regulations and air quality standards.
- Experience in water, waste, and chemical environmental management.
- Proven success in a team-based environment, managing multiple concurrent tasks.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present and deliver training.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and other common applications.
