Description

SUMMARY:

Fire Alarm Technicians install fire alarm systems in new and existing buildings in all types of construction using conduit, hangers, cabling, alarm devices and panels. They layout, assemble, install and maintain the system and related equipment for various types of fire alarm systems.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Install and service alarm panels, audible/visual alarms, pull stations, and detectors for fire alarm systems.
  • Use a digital multi-meter as a tool for trouble shooting ground faults, shorts, and open circuit
  • on fire alarm systems.
  • Fabricating, assembling, installing, and maintaining conduit, junction boxes, terminals and equipment for fire alarm systems.
  • Strip, pull, and terminate wire to fire alarm devices using crimps, solder, shrink tubing, tape, wire nuts, and terminal blocks.
  • Attach conduits to walls, structures and fixtures using brackets, clamps, tools or anchor.
  • Inspect, examine, and test installed systems, using fire alarm testing equipment, load testing, visual and audible observation, or other methods.
  • Program single line circuit, modules, sensors, and input/output devices for fire alarm panels.
  • Measure and mark conduits for cutting and bending.
  • Read blueprints, complete dailies, receive and be accountable for material and supplies.
  • Be responsible for jobsite cleanup, security and quality control programs.
  • Ensure the proper safety equipment, materials and tools are onsite to perform required work.
  • Have a working knowledge of some or all the following documents: NFPA 72, CFC and NEC.
  • Interface with customers, job-site superintendents, other sub-contractors, local AHJs and other company staff related to the project.
  • Have a working knowledge and detailed skillset of fire alarm system installation including conduit placement in concrete decks.
  • Troubleshoot, problem solve and can think critically to handle complex situations.

Qualifications


Education and Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or equivalent combination of education and experience. OSHA-10 and/or CPR and First Aid Training must be completed within the first 3 months of employment.

  • This job requires that you can read, write, and speak English. It is required to have the ability to comprehend instructions, written correspondence, and read lists and reports.
  • This job requires the use of Paycom, Outlook, and BuilderTrend. Basic knowledge of mobile devices for communication.
  • Basic math skills are a necessity. The ability to calculate figures and amounts. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions delivered in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in unstandardized situations.

 

Physical Requirements:

1.            Standing: Remains in standing position to perform various functions of the job.

2.            Climbing: ascending and descending ladders and the like.

3.            Crouching: Bending the body downward or forward by bending leg and spine.

4.            Handling: Seizes, helps, or works with hands.

5.            Lifting: Raises or lowers tools and piping.

6.            Reaching: Extends hands and arms in any direction.

7.            Vision: visual acuity to be thorough and accurate in the work assigned.

8.            Stooping: Bends body downward and forward by bending at knees or waist.

9.            Talking: Communicating by phone and in person.

10.          Walking and moving about on foot.

 

 

TRAVEL, WORKS HOURS, SUPERVISION:

 

Travel Expectations

Some traveling may be necessary for out-of-town jobs. Accommodations will be provided as necessary.

 

Work Hours

This job is full time and requires regular work hours. Employees are provided two 10-minute rest periods for every four hours of work.  Meal periods of 30 minutes or more must be taken before the 5th hour of work and must be clocked out/in for.  Employees are relieved of all duties during their meal and rest periods and are prohibited from working and/or being available to work during each of them.  If the meal or rest periods are not provided or taken for any reason, HR must be notified, and the employee is provided meal penalty premium pay.
