Job Description
- The Quality & Regulatory Affairs Specialist (Regulatory & Specifications Specialist) is at the forefront of regulatory compliance and helps to ensure all processes and documentation align with industry standards and guidelines.
- This role serves as the main point of contact for Customers on regulatory compliance, specifications, food safety, and documentation communications.
- Create, review, and update finished product specifications for customers
- Manage and maintain relationships with customers as they relate to documentation requests and customer portal usage.
- Conduct Food Safety 360 risk assessments on new ingredients and vendors and submit to management to finalize approval process.
- Complete and submit documentation to support regulatory requirements and claims (USDA, dairy, state regulatory requirements, import/export, and tariffs) and interact with regulators and/or third-party agencies as necessary (US and international).
- Lead any new certification programs including audits and support documentation
- Collaborate with Management and customers on regulatory, food safety, and labeling/nutritional information and provide input into balancing regulatory risk with business and operational needs.
- Work with cross-functional teams to create, review, and update PRFs, PCS and Palletizer Info Sheets.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of current and changing regulations and industry trends.
- Develop and maintain expertise on product tariff assignments for exports and other international regulations and labeling.
- Backup Quality Data Control Specialist.
- Adheres to all GMP, including sanitary requirements, Safety, Food Safety, and Standardized Work procedures.
- Requires BS/BA, preferably in nutrition and/or food science; MS/MA is preferred, or 10 years' experience in the food industry, primarily in regulatory affairs, regulatory compliance, food labeling, nutrition or product development.
- 3 years relevant regulatory and quality experience in the food industry required
- Previous experience with Quality or ERP software required. Vicinity, Safefood 360, and HorizonScan a plus.
- Proficient interpersonal and communication skills, verbal and written, with the ability to interact with all levels of staff
- Detailed oriented nature and precision is critical to ensure products adhere to regulatory requirements.
- Results-oriented team player capable of working in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities.
- Knowledge of FDA food labeling regulations and documentation requirements. Proven knowledge of regulations for US and International including import/export, tariff, and state regulatory requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and independently.
- Provides solutions to a wide range of difficult problems by applying advanced regulatory and technical knowledge and extensive experience
