Shop Manager - Heavy Equipment
TASKS AND DUTIES
In charge of management of company"s equipment and maintenance operations. Schedules and prioritizes equipment repairs and maintenance. Oversees multiple maintenance mechanics, establishes productivity goals, tracks progress of work and maintains a safe work environment.
- Adheres and promotes safety within the operation.
- Oversees maintenance and repair of equipment in shop, yard and at the project sites.
- Ensures that all equipment is completely inspected and calibrated based on the manufacturer"s recommendations or government standard.
- Reviews employee training to ensure a skilled mechanic work force.
- Ensures the shop and yard is properly maintained, functioning and clean.
- Monitors preventative maintenance schedule on equipment.
- Monitors service schedules on equipment for warranty compliance.
- Supports on the job projects including identifying all sources of equipment maintenance, fueling, repair and spare parts.
- Establishes productivity expectations and tracks the production and activity of the mechanic workforce.
- Manages the inbound and outbound inspection process.
- Ensures the ready status of idle equipment.
- Participates in the equipment evaluation process to determine buy / sell needs.
- Maintains files of all equipment.
- Maintains a positive working relationship with others.
- Effectively trains, coaches, disciplines and develops employees to achieve and maintain positive working relationships within the maintenance shop.
- Achieves desired results through effective leadership and appropriate influence while adhering to established policies and procedures.
- Supervises maintenance staff.
- Reviews, verifies and approves maintenances mechanics time sheets on a daily basis.
- Obtains and authorizes OT, shift work, or off-hour work assigned to mechanics.
- Determines methods and course of action to achieve departmental and organizational goals through effective planning and efficient performance of department.
- Strives for innovation within the department.
- Meets schedules and deadlines, adheres to policies and procedures and maintains a good attendance / tardiness record.
- Uses good interpersonal skills by gladly assisting others to accomplish work of the organization, even if it is outside the scope of regular duties.
- Performs a variety of duties related to the maintenance and repair of company equipment
- Examines and listens to machines, motors, gasoline and diesel engines and equipment for operational defects and dismantles defective units using hand and power tools
- Performs scheduled preventative and periodic maintenance
- Reassembles, adjusts and lubricates machines and equipment to ensure efficient operation
- Evaluates operational programs and performs cost effective corrective repairs to ensure operational requirements can be met
- Order parts when needed
- Maintains knowledge of new and changing equipment requirements
- Contains costs by using warranty; evaluating service and parts options
- Enhances maintenance department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments
- Performs other duties and tasks as assigned
