Summary/Objective
The Job Captain is responsible for leading a small Engineering team of 3-5 detailers, attending design and construction meetings, overseeing the development of concept drawings, ensuring constructability throughout the project lifecycle, coordinating Building Information Modeling (BIM), and managing drafting schedules and resources. Additionally, this role involves actively participating in daily model reviews, serving as an Advance Steel Subject Matter Expert (SME), conducting AISC QC checklist reviews, and fostering effective communication with team members.
Primary Responsibilities/Functions
- Attend Design and Construction Meetings: Participate in Design and Analysis (DA) meetings to contribute to the project's success by providing valuable insights and collaborating with other stakeholders.
- Concept Drawing Approval: Review and approve concept drawings, ensuring accuracy and adherence to project specifications.
- Constructability Review: Conduct thorough reviews of engineering, fabrication, installation, and logistics processes to ensure constructability and identify potential issues early in the project.
- BIM Coordination: Establish and maintain effective Building Information Modeling (BIM) coordination among various teams to streamline communication and optimize project execution.
- Floor-to-Floor Coordination: Ensure seamless coordination between different floor levels, contributing to the overall efficiency of the project.
- Daily Model Review: Actively participate in daily reviews of project models to identify and address discrepancies, conflicts, and other issues promptly.
- Drafting Schedule and Resource Management: Manage drafting schedules and allocate resources effectively to meet project milestones and deadlines.
- Advance Steel Subject Matter Expert (SME): Serve as an expert in Advance Steel software, providing guidance and support to the drafting team and ensuring its efficient utilization.
- AISC QC Checklist: Perform rigorous reviews of projects using the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) Quality Control checklist to maintain the highest quality standards.
- Timecard Approval: Review and approve timecards for team members, ensuring accurate recording of hours worked.
- Monthly 1:1 Meetings: Conduct one-on-one meetings with team members monthly to provide guidance, and support, and ensure alignment with project goals.

Required Education/Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Architecture, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Proficiency in using Advance Steel and other relevant design and drafting software.
- Strong knowledge of structural steel construction principles, practices, and standards.
- Proven experience in BIM coordination and constructability review.
- Prior experience in managing drafting schedules and resources is a plus.

Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration when on a job site. The noise level in the work environment can be loud.
The employee is required to have a clean workspace in home, hotel, etc. for virtual meetings, internally or externally with clients, vendors, etc.
Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active when on a job site and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items over 50 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Personal Protective Equipment
Utilize PP&E in compliance with OSHA standard and per site specific safety programs.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position (40 hours). Workdays are Monday through Friday, work times are dependent on department, projects, and supervisor’s request and approval.
