Job Description
Perform QC laboratory chemical analysis to support production units. This includes analysis of process intermediates, pesticide active ingredients, agricultural formulations, raw materials, residual impurities, and environmental products. The test methods, in most part, are established and routine. Report results to production units from which the samples originated. Follows all procedures and requirements to ensure full compliance with the site Quality Management System, and Syngenta manufacturing and quality control specifications. This is an entry level laboratory position. Shift work is required, which may include weekends and holidays.
Duties:
- Provides analytical support and data to production units to ensure efficient operation and production of quality products. Communicates effectively with Operational Units to maintain a positive working relationship.
- Ensures that all reported data are produced following established SOPs and QA/QC requirements.
- Performs preventative maintenance and repair of laboratory equipment when required.
- Assist in general housekeeping for the Quality laboratory, including proper disposal of and maintaining storage of chemicals.
- Reports non-conformances, according to established procedures and criteria, and assists in corrective action where appropriate.
- Be available for critical off-hour samples when needed.
Qualifications
- Able to run routine Quality Laboratory analyses.
- Actively cross-train in other lab areas and help assist when needed, while also cross-training other lab technicians in your areas.
- 100% completion of all analyses required by sample and analytical plan.
- Zero complaints from production units due to erroneous, incomplete, or untimely sample analysis and/or reporting of data.
- Zero production delays due to analytical instrumentation or equipment failures.
- Zero non-compliances from regulatory agencies due to analytical errors or failure to follow established SOPs and QA/QC requirements.
Critical knowledge
Analytical procedures (SOPs), operation and troubleshooting laboratory instruments and equipment (GC, HPLC, viscometer, densitometer, particle size analyzer, pH meter, titration), good housekeeping and laboratory practices, QA/QC procedures, SPC, and computer operation.
Critical skills
Laboratory equipment operation and instrumentation troubleshooting skills, project planning, proper documentation, effective communication, basic math, use of Microsoft Office programs. Knowledge of GC and HPLC instruments, using Chromeleon and Sample Manager (LIMs) software are a plus.
Critical experience: Minimum four-year college degree with science major (chemistry degree desired), or high school diploma with minimum of 5 years industrial QC laboratory experience and knowledge of instrumentation.
