Job Description

The temporary Part-Time Shop Technician will support the fabrication team to operate and maintain a safe and clean fabrication shop for the School of Architecture. This position will assist the fabrication team to provide instruction and oversight in the use of power, hand, and digital tools for fabrication in a number of media for students, faculty, and staff.

Education and Experience

  • College degree in related field (Industrial Design, Architecture, Furniture Design, Sculpture, Theatrical Technical Direction, etc.) or relevant work experience required.
  • Two (2) plus years teaching, preferably in a shop-related field.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Extensive knowledge of metal, wood, and plastic fabrication techniques.
  • Knowledge of laser cutter equipment use desired.
  • CNC router experience desired.
  • 3D printing knowledge a plus.
  • Proficiency with one or more of the following: Rhino, AutoCad, Solidworks, Inventor, Grafite.
  • Adobe Creative Suite knowledge is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Provide instruction and oversight on the use of power tools, hand tools and material processing strategies for fabrication in metal, wood, plastic, etc., for students, faculty, and staff.
  • Maintain health and safety standards as dictated by university and government regulations.
  • Maintain and repair equipment as necessary, implement upgrades.
  • Maintain inventory of materials, equipment, machined parts, and hand tools.
  • Ensure all equipment is in safe and general working order.
  • Supervise work study students as needed.
