- Develop and review system- and component-level specifications and scopes of work, ensuring alignment with nuclear codes, standards, and regulations.
- Provide technical direction and guidance to engineers on nuclear and non-nuclear design standards.
- Specify and assess the suitability of instrumentation measurement techniques for sodium fast reactors and integrated energy storage technologies, considering measurement range, accuracy, and response time.
- Apply regulatory criteria and standards to complex I&C system designs.
- Review and develop key technical design documents, such as System Requirements Documents, System Design Descriptions, Interface Control Documents, and Engineering Design Specifications.
- Create and manage drawing packages for system and sub-system designs (e.g., P&IDs, control system architecture, control logic diagrams, instrument installation drawings).
- Develop integrated design packages for key systems and sub-systems.
- Provide oversight and technical direction to supplier projects, ensuring compliance with contract requirements and coordinating technical reviews.
- Support continuous learning and application of nuclear industry best practices to maintain high engineering design standards.
- Integrate I&C systems with the work of other disciplines, engineers, and subject matter experts.
- Support licensing activities related to Safety Analysis Reports.
Key Qualifications & Skills:
- Education: B.S. or higher in Controls, Electrical, or a related discipline from an accredited university.
- Experience: Minimum of 6 years of direct experience in instrumentation and controls systems development, diagnostics, and delivery. Higher education may count toward years of experience.
- Desired Experience:
- Previous experience with nuclear reactor safety systems or nuclear instrumentation systems design.
- Familiarity with IEEE and IEC standards.
- Experience in implementing design controls in accordance with nuclear power plant quality assurance standards (e.g., 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, ASME NQA-1).
- Experience with high-temperature process design (400°C and higher).
- Technical Skills:
- Ability to manage complex projects with competing objectives and resolve conflicts.
- Experience with industrial process flow diagrams (PFD) and piping & instrument diagrams (P&ID).
- Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, SolidWorks) (preferred but not required).
