System One is actively seeking a Shift Supervisor for a direct hire opportunity with our client in Chattanooga, TN.
Position Summary
The Shift Supervisor is responsible for overseeing Machine Shop operations during assigned shifts, ensuring compliance with safety protocols, quality standards, and production goals. This hands-on leadership role involves managing a team of machinists and operators, optimizing workflow, maintaining equipment performance, and stepping in to operate machinery when needed. Basic CNC programming skills are required.
- Supervise and coordinate daily activities of production staff, including machinists and operators.
- Work closely with Quality Assurance personnel to coordinate timing of inspections and resolution of issues.
- Collaborate with Quality Assurance on inspection schedules and issue resolution.
- Monitor production to ensure quality and meet output targets.
- Conduct routine equipment inspections and coordinate maintenance as needed.
- Train and mentor staff on safety and operational procedures.
- Manage shift schedules, time-off requests, and staffing to ensure adequate coverage.
- Address and resolve operational issues promptly to minimize downtime.
- Maintain accurate production records and support shift changeover communications.
- Collaborate with other day shift supervisor and departments to ensure seamless operations across shifts
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or technical certification preferred.
- Minimum 8 years’ experience in a job shop or manufacturing environment, including 2 years in a supervisory role.
- At least 5 years’ experience with 4-5 axis, high-spec machining.
- Experience in both Turning and Milling is a plus.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings and blueprints, especially geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and safety practices.
- Effective leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Willingness to work off-shift hours (10 PM – 7 AM).
- Familiarity with lean manufacturing and continuous improvement methods.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Manual dexterity and visual acuity for machine operation and product inspection.
- Exposure to noise, dust, and varying temperatures in a manufacturing environment.
