Description
The Principal of Land Use Entitlement and Urban Planning will serve an important role as a team leader, strategist, and coordinator responsible for guiding clients and development projects through the planning and land entitlement process. The position is ideal for a candidate with at least 12 years of land use planning and land use entitlement experience, who has a skill set to lead planning projects with minimal to no supervision, and who is experienced overseeing and preparing planning documents such as specific plans, zoning ordinances, design guidelines, and entitlement strategy reports. T&B Planning's primary client base consists of private land developers and property owners that rely on T&B Planning to prepare their application materials and efficiently lead projects through the government approval process. An understanding of how planning fits into other core components of the entitlement process including due diligence research, CEQA compliance, and post-entitlement implementation for land development is also advantageous. The position requires the production and oversight of planning documents, management of planning staff, coordination with clients and government agencies, and ability to effectively coordinate and work cross functionally with other service divisions.
Day-to-Day :
- Works with clients and project teams to lead proposed land development projects toward entitlement.
- Prepares and oversees the preparation of specific plans, zoning documents, design guidelines, and other planning and zoning documents.
- Conducts planning and zoning research.
- Integrates planning and entitlement work with CEQA compliance and post-entitlement project implementation work undertaken internally by T&B Planning or externally by others.
- Participates in conference calls and meetings and makes presentations to clients, project teams, public agencies, and governmental decision-making bodies.
- Prepares and manages project schedules.
- Prepares proposals, budgets, and participates in business development.
- Work with various partners and sub-consultants to coordinate project activities.
- Guides and mentors in-office planning staff to advance their professional growth.
- Works with the firm's Development Services, CEQA Compliance, and Graphics / GIS teams, including in-person management at least 3 days per week from the firm's Irvine and / or San Diego, CA office locations.
