General Summary:
The Experienced Asphalt Paving Foreman is responsible for overseeing and managing asphalt paving projects from start to completion, ensuring quality workmanship, safety, and efficiency. This role involves coordinating with crew members, supervising paving activities, and effectively communicating with project managers, subcontractors, and inspectors. The foreman will also be responsible for maintaining safety standards and ensuring compliance with project specifications and company policies. This position is eligible for a discretionary monthly incentive during production months.
Essential Job Functions:
- Plan, coordinate, and supervise asphalt paving operations, including scheduling, equipment allocation, and material procurement.
- Read and interpret construction plans, specifications, and project requirements to ensure accurate execution of work.
- Monitor project progress and make necessary adjustments to ensure timely completion and high-quality workmanship.
- Train, supervise, and mentor paving crew members, providing guidance on proper techniques and safety protocols.
- Inspect work areas to identify potential hazards and implement appropriate safety measures.
- Operate paving equipment when necessary to maintain productivity and quality.
- Maintain accurate project records, including daily reports, timekeeping, and material usage logs.
- Communicate effectively with project managers, subcontractors, inspectors, and crew members to ensure smooth workflow and address issues promptly.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and company standards.
- Participate in project planning meetings and contribute to process improvements.
PREPARATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Preparation:
· High school diploma or equivalent required; additional vocational training or certification in construction management, civil engineering, or a related field preferred.
· Minimum of 5 years of experience in asphalt paving, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or foreman role.
· Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record. DOT medical card required.
· OSHA certification and knowledge of relevant safety regulations preferred.
- Knowledge:
· In-depth knowledge of asphalt paving techniques, materials, equipment operation, and site preparation.
· Understanding of construction plans, specifications, and project blueprints.
· Comprehensive knowledge of safety procedures, regulations, and best practices in paving operations.
· Proficiency in basic math and measurements related to paving (e.g., slope, grade, volume calculations).
- Skills:
· Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to train, supervise, and motivate paving crews effectively.
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to coordinate with crew members, subcontractors, inspectors, and project managers.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Work is primarily performed outdoors at construction sites, often in varying weather conditions including extreme heat, cold, and rain.
· Regular exposure to loud noise, dust, fumes, and heavy machinery.
· Must be able to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and crouch for extended periods.
· Requires the ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds regularly, and occasionally heavier objects with assistance.
· Prolonged periods of operating paving equipment, including standing or sitting for extended durations.
· Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) as needed.
· Occasional evening, weekend, and holiday work may be required to meet project deadlines.
