This position is for a general dentistry startup practice which will be opening in July 2025. Position will be part-time initially and will move to full-time as soon as we are able to expand the schedule.
Job Title: Dental Assistant

Position Summary:
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Dental Assistant to join our healthcare team. You will play a vital role in patient care by assisting with dental procedures, maintaining treatment room organization, and ensuring the safe and effective sterilization of instruments and equipment in compliance with OSHA, HIPAA, and infection control standards.
Preferred Qualifications:
- At least one year of experience in dental assisting, sterile processing, or a related field.
- Knowledge of dental and surgical instrumentation and sterilization protocols.
- Familiarity with dental radiography.
Dental Assisting Responsibilities:
- Prepare treatment rooms and assist dentists during clinical procedures.
- Take and process dental X-rays (intraoral and extraoral).
- Record and update patient medical histories and treatment notes.
- Provide patients with post-operative instructions and oral hygiene education.
- Perform direct and indirect patient care under the supervision of a licensed dentist.
- Handle dental lab cases.
Sterile Processing Responsibilities:
- Decontaminate, clean, disinfect, and sterilize surgical and dental instruments, trays, and equipment.
- Monitor sterilization equipment and perform quality checks, including biological and chemical indicators.
- Maintain accurate logs and documentation related to instrument processing and equipment maintenance.
- Ensure compliance with infection control standards and proper storage of sterile items.
Administrative & Team Support:
- Manage patient records in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Track lab cases and referrals; participate in recall system management.
- Assist with inventory and supply ordering to ensure treatment rooms are fully stocked.
- Help in other areas of the practice when needed (phones, scheduling, insurance forms, etc.).
- Actively participate in team meetings and promote a collaborative work environment.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to stand for prolonged periods and perform repetitive tasks.
- Must have normal or corrected vision and hearing; ability to discern color is essential.
- Fine motor skills required for handling delicate instruments and dental procedures.
Skills & Competencies:
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions accurately.
- Proficient in using dental software, computers, and sterilization technology.
- Knowledge of OSHA, HIPAA, and infection control guidelines.
- Able to prioritize tasks and adapt to a fast-paced clinical environment.
Licensure/Certification (Preferred or Required):
- CPR/BLS Certification.
