Production Artist
Summary of Position
As a Production Artist, the responsibilities include but are not limited to, pre-flighting customer-supplied artwork and suggesting improvements, generating proofs, preparing press-ready files for multiple printing processes with a high degree of quality and accuracy to exceed customer expectations, and maintaining an organized art server. This position will also work with the digital and flexo printing schedulers to ensure the timely production of products, as well as collaborate with various departments to troubleshoot potential issues and ensure artwork files meet production and customer specifications.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Pre-flight artwork from customers and collaborate with the various departments to ensure quality standards are met.
- Edit and revise customer files/artwork using Illustrator and Photoshop.
- Utilize Esko software to prepare proof and press-ready files.
- Follow print specifications and flexo/digital/screen requirements when creating/editing/converting proofs for print-ready production.
- Follow up with appropriate individuals when the artwork does not match the job ticket specifications.
- Recreate artwork as necessary to ensure production and customer expectations are met.
- Adhere to ever-changing deadlines while consistently completing accurate art files and meeting quality standards.
- Create printing plates for production which includes output of the RIP file and imaging plate in a timely and accurate manner.
- Coordinate with production planning to ensure printing plates are ready for press operations based on the run date as specified on the job ticket.
- Maintain the art server as well as all plate envelopes.
- Serve as a proactive resource in helping to identify potential issues, proposing solutions, and working toward positive results.
- Attend meetings to ensure pre-flight planning is accurate and meets job ticket specifications.
- Complete design projects as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Qualifications
- 2-year degree in a related field or 3 years previous experience working as a production artist in the printing industry.
- Proficient in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.
- Working knowledge of screen, digital, and flexo printing processes.
- Proficient knowledge of Mac format.
- Knowledge of Esko software is preferred.
- Digital/color management skills beneficial.
- Knowledge of the 4-color process.
- Ability to work under multiple deadlines in an efficient manner
- Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
