SUMMARY: The Repurposing Center Mechanic reports to the Superintendent of Roads and County Facilities and responds to road calls for vehicle and equipment repairs. The Talbot County Roads Department responds to all aspects of programmed and routine maintenance, in all weather conditions, as well as emergency operations for approximately 370 miles of County-owned roads and right-of-way area,
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
· Inspects malfunctioning automotive equipment, determines cause of malfunction.
· Responds to road calls for vehicle and equipment repairs.
· Adjusts repairs or replaces such parts as brakes, steering systems and pumps.
· Tunes motors.
· Performs wheel alignments.
· Keeps records of work performed, repairs affected, and materials used.
· Performs related work as required.
QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from high school or GED and four years of full-time employment, or its equivalent in the servicing, maintenance and repair of motor vehicles or motor equipment. A valid minimum Class B CDL license is desired; or must be able to obtain within six (6) months.
Considerable knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and practices of the automotive mechanic trade.
Considerable knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of the work.
Skill in locating and determining the cause of automotive equipment malfunctions.
Skill in adjusting defects in motor equipment.
Skill in the use and care of tools employed in the automotive mechanic trade.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Knowledge of time and labor necessary to accomplish automotive equipment repairs.
Ability to plan and schedule time, materials and labor to accomplish maintenance and repairs of automotive equipment.
Ability to report to work after normal business hours during adverse weather conditions.
Ability to accomplish the responsibilities of the position.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The employee routinely works with and around heavy equipment such as heavy trucks, construction and maintenance equipment.
The employee may occasionally be exposed to dust, noise and extreme heat and cold.
The noise level can be moderate to extremely loud.
