Position Overview :
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist to join our client in the Moses Lake, WA area. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations within our food processing facility. The EHS Specialist will work closely with all departments to promote a safe and sustainable work environment, manage EHS programs, and maintain adherence to federal, state, and local regulations.
Key Responsibilities :
Safety Compliance & Inspections :
Conduct routine safety audits and inspections of the facility, equipment, and practices to ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, FDA, and other regulatory agencies.
Identify potential hazards, unsafe practices, and compliance gaps, and recommend corrective actions.
Lead incident investigations and ensure timely documentation and corrective actions are implemented.
Training & Development :
Develop and implement EHS training programs for employees on topics such as proper equipment usage, PPE requirements, chemical safety, and emergency response.
Facilitate regular safety meetings and maintain records of attendance and training.
Policy Development :
Assist in creating, updating, and enforcing EHS policies and procedures to maintain a safe workplace.
Ensure policies are communicated effectively and understood at all levels of the organization.
Environmental Monitoring & Compliance :
Manage waste disposal practices and ensure compliance with environmental laws concerning air, water, and waste management.
Oversee hazardous materials handling, including proper labeling, storage, and disposal.
Emergency Response & Preparedness :
Develop and coordinate emergency response plans, including fire drills, evacuation protocols, and incident management procedures.
Serve as the first point of contact for safety-related emergencies and provide leadership in crisis situations.
Regulatory Reporting & Recordkeeping :
Maintain accurate EHS records and reports as required by federal, state, and local regulations.
Prepare and submit reports on workplace injuries, safety performance metrics, and environmental compliance.
Collaboration & Continuous Improvement :
Work with the plant management team to promote a safety-first culture and engage employees in safety initiatives.
Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in EHS programs and recommend changes to enhance workplace safety and environmental sustainability.
Qualifications :
Education : Bachelors degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field. Relevant certifications (e.g., OSHA, CSP, CIH) are a plus.
Experience :
3 years of experience in EHS within a food processing, manufacturing, or similar environment.
Knowledge :
Strong knowledge of OSHA, EPA, FDA, and other applicable safety and environmental regulations.
Experience with food safety protocols (HACCP, GMP) is highly desirable.
Skills :
Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to train and influence employees at all levels.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and EHS software for reporting and data tracking.
