Our client, an Emergency Medical Service in the greater Boston, MA area is seeking a Financial Controller to join their team.
Responsibilities:
Lead the accounting and financial functions.
- Responsible for the preparation of the company’s monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements.
- Responsible for producing Monthly Management Reports by the 20th of the following month.
- Manage and supervise the activities of all the accounting resources, internal and outsourced [A/P, A/R, and Payroll].
- Oversee month-end closing and year-end closing.
- Maintain accounting system to ensure the proper, complete, and accurate record-‐keeping of accounting company transactions are performed within the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Evaluate requirements for fully functional accounting department, develop plan to put resources and functions in place over an established timeline. Present plan to CEO and Board members. Execute on plan
- Establish a system of internal control over financial transactions and reporting. Document procedures identifying key controls and how they will operate. Collaborate with CEO, Board, and outside accounting firm on systems established and effectiveness in the Company’s accounting and financial reporting environment.
Provide training, guidance, and direction to employees to ensure work is performed in an efficient, timely, and knowledgeable manner.
- Prepare and provide financial statements, revenue analyses, and other requested areas on a scheduled or unprompted basis.
- Maintain and reconcile the fixed assets to the general ledger of the company.
- Prepare or manage preparation of union and state agency reporting.
- Participate in budgeting, forecasting and other financial reporting projects as directed by CEO and Board.
- Work closely with financial institutions concerning banking activity changes, enhancements and charges.
- Responsible for general liability insurance renewals and amendments.
- Workers Compensation reporting.
Manages all Human Resource and Payroll activities
- Prepare and submit payroll to payroll processing firm.
- Post payroll numbers to accounting system.
.• Update payroll system for salary changes, benefit changes, wage garnishments and new hires
- Keep record of all employee vacation requests and time-off accruals
- Prepare and submit union dues and fees.
.• Retirement plan administration
- Ensure that retirement plan contributions are made accurately and timely.
- Alert employees of quarterly timeframe for which they can change their 401K election.
- Provide year-end wage information for retirement plan compliance.
- Produce and review payroll reports for year end compliance
Works directly with outside accounting firm
- Coordinate year-‐end financial reporting and tax work with outside accounting firm and prepare/produce required information, schedules, and data.
- Establish regular meeting schedule with outside accounting firm to communicate developments and follow up on requirements during the year.
- Conduct internal reviews of processes, records and information.
- Implement recommendations by CEO, Board and outside accounting firm.
Qualifications:
- BA/BS Degree in Accounting, MBA preferred
- CPA preferred
- Strong understanding of generally accepted accounting principles and management and cost accounting principles
- Income and non-income tax awareness
- 5 years of supervisory experience
- Strong computer and software skills, specifically with Microsoft Office suite.
- Ability to meet hard month, quarter and year end deadlines
- Highly organized with outstanding communication skills
The compensation for this position ranges from $110,000.00 - $130,000.00. Actual compensation will be dependent upon the specific role, office location as well as the individual’s qualifications, experience, skills and certifications.
