About Company / Opportunity:
My client is a well-established life insurance company looking to hire a talented Reinsurance Accounting Leader as soon as possible. The Reinsurance Accounting Director/Manager will oversee the reinsurance accounting team, ensuring accurate accounting for all reinsurance agreements. This role involves close collaboration with the Insurance Controller, Reinsurance Accountants, third-party reinsurers, Finance Team, and auditors. You will also review and approve journal entries for premiums, allowances, claims recoverable, and updating and maintaining the parameters to support business needs.
This is a full time, permanent position on a hybrid basis in Miami (Brickell). You will work 3 days a week onsite and 2 days a week remote. We are open to relocation for non-local candidates.
Responsibilities:
- Hire, train, develop, motivate and evaluate the Reinsurance Accounting staff
- Administer existing and new reinsurance agreements according to treaty parameters.
- Review and maintain spreadsheets tracking treaty activity.
- Analyze new reinsurance agreements and recommend and establish procedures for capturing transactions accurately and reporting to reinsurers.
- Ensure timely, accurate, and complete calculations, recording, reporting, and billing in accordance with treaty terms.
- Review journal entries as required for reinsurance activity.
- Review reconciliations of reinsurance related activity, proactively identify issues, and take corrective action when necessary.
- Manage financial reporting while simultaneously overseeing reinsurance payables/receivables.
- Design and evaluate internal controls related to reinsurance processes.
- Develop and document or review and update reinsurance policies and procedures.
- Respond to internal and external audit inquiries.
- Communicate with Finance Team members, third-party reinsurers, and senior management from across the company.
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Must-Have Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field with 10 years of relevant work experience, including at least 3 years in the insurance industry, specifically related to reinsurance accounting and annuity products.
- Experience supervising accounting staff or any combination of education, professional training, or work experience that demonstrates ability to perform the job.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel; working experience with Microsoft Office Suite and Outlook
- Excellent time management skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to coordinate and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to communicate complex concepts, in both verbal and written forms, to a variety of audiences.
- Ability to build relationships with diverse team members from across the organization.
- Comfort with a steep learning curve and motivation to work in an opportunity-rich, dynamic environment.
Nice to Have Skills:
- Experience with SQL.
- Experience in life insurance.
