JOB DESCRIPTION

The Director-IT Project Management is responsible for establishing and executing the strategic direction for the IT Project Management team to support the organization's overall objectives. This role provides leadership in managing the entire project portfolio—ensuring projects are delivered on time, within scope, and on budget—while aligning IT initiatives with business priorities. Working closely with C-level executives, VPs, and cross-functional teams, the Director will drive continuous improvement in project management methodologies, foster innovation, and ensure robust risk and compliance frameworks. Additionally, this position is pivotal in building and nurturing a high-performing team, developing talent programs, and facilitating effective communication across the enterprise to meet evolving business needs.

Responsibilities

Essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Strategic Leadership: Set strategic direction for the IT Project Management Office (PMO) to ensure alignment with overall organizational goals.
  • Portfolio Management: Oversee and manage the entire project portfolio, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within scope, and on budget.
  • Executive Collaboration: Work directly with C-level executives and VPs to define project priorities, secure resources, and shape strategic initiatives.
  • Innovation and Continuous Improvement: Drive improvements in project management practices, methodologies, and tools.
  • Budget Oversight: Ensure financial accountability through effective project budget management.
  • Risk and Compliance: Implement robust risk management and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Talent Development: Build and nurture a high-performing PMO team, including developing talent programs.
  • Cross-Functional Coordination: Enhance communication and coordination across various business functions to support cohesive project execution.
  • PMO Formation & Management: Create, develop, and lead the new PMO team responsible for managing all software projects, expanding from the previous, more limited scope.
  • Collaborate with a wide variety of people with tact, courtesy and professionalism.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively, both in person and over the phone, demonstrating strong verbal skills and active listening.
  • Maintain a regular, dependable attendance and a consistently high level of performance.
  • Will work non-traditional hours as needed.
  • Maintain a high regard for personal safety, for the safety of company assets and employees, and the general public.
  • Other daily, weekly, monthly or special project duties as identified and defined.

Qualifications

Minimum requirements:

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Business Administration, or a related field.

Experience/Specific Knowledge

  • A minimum of ten (10) years of experience in IT project management, with at least three (3) years in a director-level role.
  • Proven experience with Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and IT infrastructure management.
  • Leadership Experience: Demonstrated experience in leading large, diverse project teams and managing complex project portfolios.
  • Strategic Vision: Strong strategic vision and ability to translate organizational goals into actionable project plans.
  • Advanced proficiency providing IT support for applications, and network or server administration.
  • Advanced proficiency with software and security architectures.
  • Experience managing multiple tasks simultaneously, prioritizing based on importance.
  • Experience in effectively communicating business and technical issues to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Advanced proficiency level in MS Office applications that may include but are not limited to Excel, Word, Project, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook.

Preferred Education, Experience, Certifications, Competencies, Skills, & Abilities

Above the minimum requirements; not required but advantageous in this position:

  • A Master’s degree in Information Technology or an MBA is preferred.
  • Certifications like PgMP, Agile, or ITIL are a plus

Certifications, Licenses & Registrations

  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers (for travel).
  • Project Management (PMP) certification required.

  • Capability to operate effectively within a complex organizational structure that extends across multiple locations.
  • Analytical thinker able to utilize functional understanding of the various components of systems in conjunction with technical knowledge to identify effective and efficient problem resolutions.
  • Excellent organizational, time management and communication skills; must communicate effectively with all levels of company personnel.
  • Ability to drive Executive level Steering Committee discussions focused on trade-off decisions, resource constraints, budgeting, etc.
  • Ability to work well both individually with minimal supervision and in a team environment where the sharing of knowledge is highly regarded and expected.
  • Ability to use time effectively, efficiently, and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to communicate systems requirements verbally and in writing.
  • Must be able to perform all essential and marginal functions of the job.
  • Must be able to work with a team, take direction from management, adhere to required work schedules, focus attention on details, and follow work rules.
  • Ability to successfully perform multiple tasks with strict deadlines.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize daily work.

Working Conditions

  • Required to carry a cell phone and be available to respond during working and non-working hours.
  • The successful candidate will be required to clear a drug screen and a complete background check, including credit report for certain positions, after an offer has been extended and prior to being employed.

Compensation

The salary range for the role is $191,200-$205,000/yr.

Compensation: Compensation ranges are provided in good faith based on what we anticipate when researching wages for this position at the state and national levels. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This salary range may also be modified in the future.
