We are a global importer and exporter seeking an experienced Import Specialist to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will be responsible for managing key import accounts, handling operational tasks, and ensuring compliance with all shipping and documentation requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Create and maintain detailed customer profiles, adhering to client specifications and instructions.
- Provide sales support for key import accounts.
- Investigate and resolve any issues related to imports.
- Manage both ocean and air freight operations simultaneously.
- Delegate tasks to the team in line with managerial guidance.
- Ensure adherence to Operational Data Quality Policies through training and file audits.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, serving as an escalation point when needed.
- Receive, review, and process shipment documentation (e.g., Bills of Lading, AWBs, manifests, invoices, packing lists, etc.) accurately and efficiently within time-sensitive deadlines.
- Ensure timely receipt of required documents from overseas/origin agents.
- Ensure compliance with AMS (Automated Manifest System) and timely ISF (Import Security Filing).
- Track and trace cargo shipments.
- Issue timely Arrival Notices.
- Expedite inbound import traffic for seamless customs clearance.
- Prepare and distribute manifests as needed.
- Arrange and approve payments for charges due.
- Accurately handle billing, distribution, and collection of funds for clients’ cargo.
- Approve trucker bills, agent invoices, and SSL bills.
- Resolve billing disputes efficiently.
- Communicate daily with the brokerage department for ISF filings and customs clearances.
- Communicate effectively with overseas agents.
- Negotiate rates with vendors.
- Interact with customers, vendors, and foreign agents with professionalism and excellent service.
- Provide accurate rate quotations to shippers and agents.
- Identify and promote additional business opportunities for the company.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- 3-5 years of experience in freight forwarding.
- Knowledge of FCL (Full Container Load) / LCL (Less than Container Load) ocean cargo logistics and documentation.
- Understanding of general freight forwarding terms and standards.
- Familiarity with trucker and carrier operations.
- Knowledge of NVOCC (Non-Vessel Operating Common Carrier) operations.
- General knowledge of Bills of Lading.
- Basic math skills.
- Proficiency with Cargowise.
- Familiarity with ABI (Automated Broker Interface), AMS, and ACE systems.
- Strong web tracking skills.
- Highly organized with great attention to detail.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Team player with a willingness to assist others.
- Successfully complete a required background check.
