What are the responsibilities and job description for the Afterschool Bus Driver - Camp Cristina YMCA position at TAMPA METROPOLITAN AREA YMCA INC?
Tampa Metropolitan Area YMCA Bus Drivers are the service staff responsible for safely operating YMCA buses and commercial vehicles, maintaining order at all times within the vehicle, and providing for the transportation needs of the Association’s program participants assigned to their routes. YMCA Bus Drivers are commercial motor vehicle operators and are responsible for all activities related to the bus, including but not limited to: maintaining safety as a priority at all times, attending driver trainings, inspecting the bus and completing required documentation, and maintaining the vehicle (fluids, visual tire check, gas, etc).
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Operate a YMCA bus/commercial vehicle safely and responsibly according to assigned schedules. Obey all traffic laws, regulations and procedures. Assist with other routes when breakdown or other unusual circumstances occur as assigned. Assist with shuttling vehicles for servicing, repairs, pickups and returns.
- Travel established routes and designated stops without deviation unless expressly approved by the exempt-level supervisor. Notifies the the exempt-level supervisor of any delays in scheduled time, providing approximate delay time and reason.
- Monitor the condition of the interior and exterior of commercial vehicles and conduct pre-trip inspections. Identify and immediately report expired, damaged, or defective equipment, maintenance and/or mechanical repair requirements to the exempt-level supervisor for timely follow-up.
- Ensure the safety and uninterrupted operation of assigned vehicle by maintaining fuel, oil, water, windshield washer and other fluids at an appropriate level; keeping windows, aisles, seats, and mirrors clean and free of obstructions.
- Must have ability to understand highway traffic and signals, understand a road map, respond to official questions, and be able to make legible entries on reports and records.
- Remain alert and give full attention to traffic, weather, and road conditions at all times while driving. Do not distract yourself or others, or allow yourself to be distracted by conversations with or amongst others. Always be professional, courteous, and diplomatic. Speak clearly and directly to be understood when communicating with others.
- Maintain the order and discipline of passengers. Instruct riders regarding being responsible passengers. Exercise extreme caution during loading and unloading of passengers. Take steps to prevent unauthorized individuals from entry on the bus.
- Prepare and maintain accurate documentation (including but not limited to daily mileage and condition reports, pre-trip inspections, routine maintenance, and route and time schedules) for the purpose of proving written support and/or conveying accurate information.
- Read, adhere to, and ensure enforcement of bus rules and communicate them positively and effectively to all passengers. Communicate with the exempt-level supervisor regarding potential hazards, concerns, or incidents that may need follow-up based on individual circumstances. Suggest and initiate actions to improve the transportation program.
- Know your scheduled work days and times. Report to work on time as scheduled. Be in uniform and at your position when your shift begins. Make arrangements to cover your job responsibilities and participants in your care if you must excuse yourself. Cell phone use is prohibited while driving. Immediately notify your supervisor if you are going to be late or absent. Make arrangements to cover your shift when you are unable to report to work or fulfill your job responsibilities.
- Attend scheduled staff meetings and training events. Maintain required certifications according to Tampa Metropolitan Area YMCA guidelines throughout employment as a Bus Driver
- Model, reinforce, and abide by the YMCA core values and code of conduct. Educate yourself about YMCA programs.
- Perform additional functions or assume additional responsibilities as needed or as requested by your department director or supervisor.
