The individuals considered for this position must be able and willing to interact with and communicate with people of all types. The position involves administering a significant amount of detailed processes, administering basic and specialty vision tests, and use of computer systems/data input. Also, initiative and proactively helping other staff is very important.
The job involves periods of time where quick physical movement is required to accomplish tasks. The job involves the ability to be accommodating and cheerful during patient interactions over the phone and in person.
The primary responsibilities of the position are:
1. Interacting with Patients. The individual needs to be outgoing and confident when talking to new people, needs to be poised and dignified, and needs to carry a professional, warm and welcoming, and pleasant demeanor. The position will involve greeting patients, providing paperwork as needed, and attending to their questions and concerns promptly.
2. Answering the Phones. The individual will answer the phone, schedule appointments, answer questions, or direct calls. It is important to be able to multi-task and pay attention to detail.
3. Optical Sales & Glasses Fittings. The individual will need to be comfortable in a retail sales environment as it will be necessary to help with glasses fittings and optical sales.
4. Check In or Check Out Patients/Verify Insurance. The individual will often be the first and last point of contact for patients. The position will require: utilizing the Electronic Medical Record system extensively, using multiple online services to verify patients' insurance eligibility and benefits, and collecting payment/co-pays from patients at checkout.
5. Data Entry/Scanning/Faxing. The individual will collect completed forms from patients and enter the relevant data into the patient's record in the electronic medical record. All paperwork will be scanned into the electronic medical record each day. Attention to detail is required.
6. Claim Preparation. The individual will take the codes entered by the doctor and prepare the insurance claim for submission.
7. Patient Preparation. The individual will perform technical aspects of preparing patients to be seen by the doctor, including checking vision and other initial workup procedures.
8. Assist Patients with Dispensing Glasses or Contact Lenses. The individual will help clean and repair glasses or tend to other needs of patients.
9. Help Maintain the Cleanliness of the Office. All staff are called upon to help with the regular janitorial duties of keeping the office clean. The individual is expected to help with sweeping, collecting trash from rooms, etc., as time and primary duties allow.
In an optometric office, there are many things to do that stretch across the boundaries of a single, rigidly-defined job description. This utility position is one in which flexibility and initiative are required as the individual will move into whichever area of the office/duties needs help at any given time. So, the position is for an individual that will be called upon and able to perform most of the tasks of a technician, optician, and/or receptionist when called upon by need or circumstances.

Employees are not permitted to use tobacco on the premises or at any time after opening until the office is closed at the end of the day.
The office is open from 9:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesdays. However, the Technician needs to arrive at the office at 8:00 a.m. to prepare for the arrival of patients.
The office is open from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Monday & Wednesday through Friday. However, the Technician needs to arrive at the office at 8:00 a.m. to prepare for the arrival of patients.
