Essential Duties And Responsibilities

TO APPLY, must hold a current and valid driver license and good driving record. Note: A Texas Driver License is required to hold the position.

Must have good understanding of architectural design components including demolition, floor plan, roof plan, door schedule, door and frame types, wall and stud types, millwork details, finish and material plans, enlarged architectural details, RCP plans, FF&E plans, MEP, roof plans, fire protection, door and window schedules, lock schedules, and other skills related to finish-out and renovation projects.
Must have excellent technical skills with CAD; BIM and Navisworks skills helpful, but not required. Must have strong creative design and time management skills.
Must have knowledge of architectural programming and space planning process. Knowledge of detention facilities strongly preferred.
Must understand building codes, ADA/TAS issues and life safety issues. Have knowledge of city permitting and inspection process.
Must be able to handle multiple tasks and be customer-oriented. Possess ability to expedite complex projects, good organizational skills, initiative, and ability to work independently and collaboratively in teams.
Be able to establish priorities and follow through on projects, paying close attention to detail with minimal supervision. Must be able to complete assignments under time constraints.
Possess excellent communication skills (written and oral) to interface effectively with professional consultants, contractors and staff.
Possess professional-level writing skills appropriate for correspondence, reports, action plans, and responses to various sources.
Must have the ability to read and interpret design plans, blueprints, and technical manuals and use e-mail, word processing, spreadsheet, and project management applications.
This position must possess a high level of expertise in all areas of construction, including but not limited to the ability to assess and manage the work of others in many divergent areas of construction.
Must have strong project management skills and knowledge of building systems, design, construction, and related management strategies. Follow principles of management and supervision.

While performing the duties of this position, the incumbent is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, and drive. Incumbent is also subjected to all types of weather conditions. The incumbent must be in and out of vehicles and buildings daily and is exposed to the hazards of a construction site such as noise, dirt and dust, slippery surfaces and possible falling objects. A lot of time will be spent on the phone and working on the computer. Use of a motor vehicle is required to perform the essential duties of this position.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Meets with clients to discuss the design requirements for architectural project constructions, alterations, or repairs. Provides suitable design recommendations based on factors such as budget, the building site, room layout, finish-out, and recent or local government design criteria and trends. Reworks and modifies designs as needed.
- Gathers measurements, dimensions, and other routine calculations for design layouts. Uses CAD software and manual drawing techniques to produce architectural plans for management and client approval. Ensures layouts and blueprints are compliant with industry codes and legal standards.
- Analyzes, develops, and administers the budget and procedures required to meet the goals of all assigned projects including estimates on cost, time, machinery, construction, and other specifications.
- Administers construction contracts, verifies payment submissions, and certifies amount of payment.
- Answers questions from cities or the public relating to County buildings.
- Reviews construction package with city building officials, fire department, and utility departments for permitting purposes.
- Coordinates city inspector’s schedule with contractors.
- Coordinates and checks structural, mechanical, plumbing, and electrical drawings and specifications.
- Coordinates the work of contractors and in-house staff to minimize disruptions in a department’s work flow.
- Develops technical specs, assists Purchasing with bid documents, conducts pre-construction meetings, and analyzes bids and requisition work.
- Creates, maintains and disperses reports, logs, spreadsheets, and other documentation as required and ensures those documents are complete and correct.
- Reviews, organizes, schedules, and monitors all phases of assigned projects including monitoring the performance and compliance to contracts of all consultants and contractors hired for the project.
- Attends continuing education classes, unscheduled meetings, and unexpected situations requiring immediate attention. Interacts with other architects and designers to exchange ideas and best practices.
- Performs all other related duties as assigned.
