Performs advanced level mechanical, electrical, preventative maintenance on gasoline, propane, and diesel-powered engines and/or heavy-duty off-road construction equipment. As a senior level mechanic, inspects, troubleshoots, and repairs trucks and/or heavy off-road equipment.

- May be responsible for the daily refueling and maintenance of construction equipment located at project site(s).
- Performs preventative maintenance on all vehicles and construction equipment.
- Performs state or pre-state safety inspections.
- Performs simple to highly complex computerized diagnostic testing/evaluation procedures to diagnose and repair vehicles and equipment.
- May direct the work of other mechanics or helpers, teaching/instructing them in appropriate procedures and practices, relays instructions from supervisor to others.
- Tests equipment for safe and efficient operation.
- May transport equipment.
- Makes road calls and field repairs as necessary.
- Orders or requests the acquisition of parts and supplies as needed.
- Designs, fabricates and builds special projects for vehicles and equipment.
- Performs all other related duties as assigned.

High school diploma or GED. (An additional four (4) full-time years of related experience may substitute for a high school diploma).
Three (3) years of experience as a full-time mechanic required (diesel mechanic preferred) as well as heavy truck/offroad mechanic experience strongly preferred.
Certification of graduation from an accredited Mechanic Trade School may substitute for one year of experience.
A current and valid Class C driver license is required upon hire.
A Class A CDL with a combination tanker and hazmat endorsement is required within eight (8) months of hire.
May require certification in specific trade or training such as A/C or ASE coursework.
Vehicle Inspection License and Welder Certification preferred.
Controlled Area Network (CAN) experience preferred.
Additional technician certifications and licenses preferred.
Must know how to repair highly complex off-road construction equipment with specialty certifications and licenses preferred.

Tarrant County will conduct background checks on new hires that will include a criminal background check related to convictions and deferred adjudications in the past seven years and may include credit reports, motor vehicle records, employment records and educational attainment. A conviction or deferred adjudication is not an automatic bar to employment. Each case is considered individually.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the duties of this position, the incumbent is regularly required to sit, walk, climb, stoop, lift, push and pull.
