POSITION SUMMARY
Seeking a Health Educator/Outreach Worker to join Tarzana Treatment Centers', Substance Abuse Prevention and Control (SAPC) Overdose and Harm Reduction Technical Assistance (ODHRTA) program. The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health funds this program. It aims to increase the capacity of local substance use disorder (SUD) treatment providers in the areas of naloxone training and distribution and other harm reduction resources.
This position is responsible for developing and implementing approved training curricula. It requires local travel, setting/adhering to one's own schedule, and independent decision-making. The position provides instruction through educational sessions and group presentations to increase awareness and utilization of health services through SAPC contracted providers in Los Angeles County.
SALARY RANGE
$26 - $34 / per hour DOE

HOURS
8 hours per Day / 5 Days per Week, this is not a remote work position
CATEGORIES OF DUTIES
- Promotes Health Education throughout the community, solicits and assesses patients interest in program participation and assures that patients meet the eligibility criteria as specified by the program objectives.
- Conducts structured, scheduled educational sessions covering approved topics, as needed
- Identifies site locations for outreach work and health education classes.
- Conducts formal event outreach to foster awareness of healthcare services.
- Recommends pertinent information and referral services for medical, social and emotional support.
- Updates curricula for health education sessions, including pre- and post-tests.
- Establishes and keeps current a resource file/directory of information regarding available programs, services, contact persons and avenues of access in the community, and current trends of knowledge regarding health services.
- Attends community and agency meetings as well as outreach events as required.
- Assists with orienting new Health Educators to programs policies and procedures.
- Develops and submits accurate reports regarding program activities, patients served and other information as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned by program supervisor
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

BA/BS degree in health or human/social service-related field preferred and 1 year work related experience or three (3) years work related experience

Valid California drivers license and insurance.

Bi-lingual English/Spanish a plus.
