Position Title: Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner
Department: Primary Care
Reports to: Director of Primary Care
POSITION SUMMARY
Provides psychiatric services to all patients facility-wide, as directed by the Director of Primary Care.
SALARY RANGE
$68 - $101.50 per hour DOE
HOURS:
Based on need/10 to 20 hours per week.
CATEGORIES OF DUTIES
1. Participates in the formulation and update of policies, procedures, and protocols for the NP role in collaboration with the Clinical Director and Psychiatrist.
2. In accordance with written protocols, performs comprehensive evaluations and assessments, including ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests/examinations, furnishing medication, including psychotropics, and taking responsibility for such therapy when performed in accordance with written protocols.
3. Documents in the clients record goals, interventions, and clinical outcomes, sufficient in detail that any psychiatrist can review and evaluate the effectiveness of the care being provided.
4. Consults with staff and makes referrals to other mental health or health care providers as needed.
EDUCATION AND TRAINING
1. A masters degree in nursing from an NLN-accredited college or university with a specialty in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing or completion of a Masters level Nurse Practitioner program with a post-masters specialty certificate in psych/mental health nursing.
2. Completion of a State of California Board of Registered Nursing-approved pharmacology course and minimum of 520 hours of psychiatrist-supervised experience in furnishing drugs and/or devices in not less than 6 months and not more than 12 months.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATION
1. Currently licensed by the State of California Board of Registered Nursing as a Registered Nurse.
2. Currently certified by the State of California as a Nurse Practitioner.
3. Current Furnishing Number approved by the State of California Board of Registered Nursing, with advanced pharmacology courses and training.
4. Current Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Number (PL 4024 (B); H&S code 11056) for Schedule III - V controlled substances.
