TasteWise Kids creates fun ways for kids to learn about food and inspire positive, healthy eating habits. We believe kids deserve to know where food comes from, have the knowledge to make their own informed food choices, and to have the skills to prepare their own food. TasteWise Kids is a small non-profit based in Baltimore and currently works in Baltimore City, Baltimore County, and Howard County.

Position

The Food Educator is responsible for the coordination and implementation of TasteWise Kids’ programs. In addition, the Food Educator will work closely with TasteWise Kids Leadership to identify areas of improvement/growth and to coordinate program evaluation efforts. The Food Educator will also help with writing program summaries for educators, families, and donors. This position reports to the Executive Director of TasteWise Kids.


The Food Educator is a paid TasteWise Kids employee that requires up 16 hours weekly. This position is paid an hourly rate of $24-27/hour and is not eligible for medical or dental benefits.

This position requires in-person meetings, on site program facilitation, as well as some virtual work. Applicants should live in the Baltimore area. This position requires afternoon hours and occasionally a weekend event. The Food Educator is required to track her/his/their hours and to participate in regularly scheduled meetings to demonstrate work progress.


Position to begin in February, 2025.


Main Responsibilities

  • Facilitate Food Literacy programs, including being the point person for volunteers and partner schools.
  • Lead programming at various area schools, centers, and farms.
  • Contribute and be an active team member of the TasteWise Kids program staff.
  • Organize content for pop-up events.
  • Provide timely programming updates and summaries for social media and grant reports.
  • Provide support in areas such as grant applications, grant reports, and communications related to TasteWise Kids programs.
  • Identify opportunities for program improvement.
  • Maintain physical and/or electronic files and data related to program metrics and impact.
  • Participate in staff meetings and evaluation activities on an on-going basis.

·      Work on special projects as requested by the Executive Director of TasteWise Kids.

Qualifications

·       Experience teaching online and/or in-person lessons or activities. Experience with K-8th grade preferred. Experience with incorporating social justice and/or diversity/equity components into content and programming highly preferred. 

·       Experience leading a team and working with diverse individuals and groups. Experience working within a non-profit organization or educational setting preferred.

·       Demonstrated ability to problem solve, develop creative solutions, and find resources to complete complicated tasks.

·       Ability to be flexible and handle multiple competing priorities in a timely manner. Ability to proactively engage across multiple areas of the organization, as needed. Organizational skills are essential.

  • Strong interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to work well as part of a team and also to take initiative to work independently.
  • Interested in food, education, farming, kids’ health and/or wellness.

·       Willingness to work with data and work in a data-driven organization.

·       Proficient with Microsoft Office, conducting internet research, and using online applications/software including databases.

·       Ability to maintain confidentiality and have a professional demeanor.

·       Willingness to receive feedback and desire to learn new skills.

·       Comfortable working with a small team.

  • Bachelor's degree and at least 2 years of related work experience (additional work experience could be substituted for academic degree).
