Quality Assurance Specialist | Landover, MD | On-Site | Non-Exempt FTE
How does this Job align to our Strategy?
We are seeking a driven and talented individual to play a critical role in leading compliance and continuous improvement projects within the Quality function. This individual will directly be responsible for assuring and enabling the compliance and continuous improvement of all product materials, manufacturing processes and finished products including the supporting systems and processes and the operating environment. The person will be responsible to identify opportunities and lead improvement efforts working cross-functionally with Production, Maintenance, New Product Development, and Supply Chain teams with support from Quality Supervisor.
This will be an important role as we work to drive scalable and streamline ways of working, deliver strategic objectives and drive process improvement. Successful candidates should have strong writing, communication, project management, analytical, and organizational skills, and a passion for driving operational excellence. This person should exhibit influential communication and organizational skills, superior attention to detail and an ability to prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
What are the Key Deliverables in this role ?
- Evaluate finished goods line samples that are brought to the lab by running tests for color, moisture, bean breakage, grind and residual oxygen; do visual check of packaging and code date. Give feedback to operators.
- Prepare samples for tasting by roasting, grinding, set up cups, pouring water. Taste samples and evaluate against standards.
- Test Green coffee samples for moisture, density and evaluate grade; input approval in Roasting Control Room.
- Instrument set up, calibration and support.
- Project work: data analysis, procedure writing, etc. (mainly desk work).
- Participate in new product development/sensory evaluation.
- Disposition product: Evaluate product and make hold, rework, release decisions.
- Manage hold inventory in SAP. Lead SAP initiatives for the lab.
- Lead Root Cause Analysis, Lead Kaizen projects.
- Perform Internal Audits for BRC standard. Lead GMP audits and food safety training for plant associates.
- Deputize for Quality Supervisor as needed. Back fill for Production Supervisors or Raw Material Coordinator as needed.
- Establish, improve and sustain a lean/agile manufacturing and CI culture within the quality team.
What are the Critical success factors for the Role ?
- Bachelor’s degree or Associate Degree with equivalent experience
- 2-5 years’ experience in a regulated food manufacturing environment and working familiarity with GMP standards
- 1-2 years’ experience with scientific method, report writing and the basic tools of quality
- 1-2 years’ experience in operation of manual and automated analytical equipment
- Working proficiency with Microsoft PC-based computing skills (word processing Word, spreadsheet-Excel, database–Access database. Aptitude for sensory evaluation.
- Effective oral and written communication skills, Strong interpersonal skills
