MECHANICAL PROJECT ENGINEER - Machinery, Automation, and Processes
Overview:
The Mechanical Project Engineer will develop engineering designs, specifications, cost estimates, technical specifications, and material specifications for high quality, state of the art CNC precision machine tools and related equipment for the railroad industry. This position is responsible for the related design analysis, detailed documentation, and coordination with operations personnel to produce the finished products.
Essential Functions:
- Develop concepts for machinery, automation, and processes in cooperation with other disciplines and stakeholders with an emphasis on robustness, manufacturability, deterministic design-in quality, and cost effectiveness.
- Convert concepts into detailed designs using Autodesk Inventor and related simulation tools.
- Define materials, parts, assemblies, and BOMs within the ERP system (Genius ERP).
- Ensure designs enable projects to be completed within budget.
- Submit projects (models, drawings, ERP content, etc.) to purchasing and manufacturing on time.
- Support and participate in commissioning, testing, demonstration and customer acceptance in house and in the field.
- Support Customer Service with troubleshooting as needed on installed machines.
- Search out and implement the use of new technologies, cost saving techniques and materials, and improved safety features on equipment designs.
- Participate in preparation of product specifications, cost estimates, schedules, sales and application engineering tools, O&M manuals, validation plans, test reports, and project submittals as needed.
- Occasional travel (domestic and international) may be required (<10%).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar and 3-5 years related experience with increasing responsibility.
- Excellent organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Disciplined and goal oriented, while being creative enough to provide and work with new ideas and approaches to designs and processes.
- Team oriented, professional and enthusiastic.
- Work within strict schedules/deadlines and budgets without sacrificing quality.
- Communicate effectively with employees at all levels of the company.
- Experience in manufacturing processes, machine tools, tolerancing and materials.
- Knowledgeable in hydraulics, pneumatics, power transmission, lubrication and fabrications.
- Able to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
- Capable of sophisticated analysis in the various disciplines of mechanical engineering.
