Summary:
The Universal Banker I position is responsible for providing accurate cash handling and positive client interactions while performing a variety of services, including cashing checks, processing various transactions, performing account maintenance and new account openings, promoting and cross-selling bank services and products, and other customer service related functions.
- Provides prompt, efficient, accurate, and friendly customer service in response to requests, inquiries, or problems concerning account services or bank products. Explains service charges, statement problems, account and product features, and related items to customers as requested.
- Processes a variety of account transactions, including but not limited to deposits and withdrawals on deposit accounts, processing cash in and out, issuing official checks. Verifies deposit amounts, examines checks, bonds and cashier’s checks to determine acceptability. Accurately verifies signatures and client balances on withdrawals.
- Assists customers with filling out various banking applications or forms.
- Handles customer problems either through direct personal action or research, or refers customer to another internal bank resource.
- Promotes the Bank’s business by explaining, promoting, suggesting, and/or selling products or services to current customers. Builds and maintains customer relationships.
- Detects fraud by using precautionary measures according to legal requirements and the Bank’s policies.
- Completes all assigned/required Bank training within established timelines.
Desired Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Demonstrate the four “C’s” of professionalism: competence, confidence, confidentiality, and courtesy.
- Ability to maintain a consistent professional, friendly, and customer service focused approach and attitude.
- Basic knowledge of Bank operations, products and services; related state and federal laws and regulations, and other Bank operational policies and procedures.
- Proficient in software programs of diverse functionality used by the Bank, including but not limited to desktop applications and administrative programs and resources (Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook).
- Basic math skills to balance accounts: add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals; locate routine mathematical errors; compute rate, ratio and percent, including the drafting and interpretation of bar graphs.
- Strong oral, written and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions, interpret documents, understand procedures, write reports and correspondence, and communicate clearly to customers and employees.
- Ability to work in team environment focused on serving clients and teammates and with deliberate effort to contribute to the Organization's Mission Statement.
- Effective organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision while performing duties.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Associate’s degree (AA) or equivalent degree from a two year college preferred.
- Relevant customer service experience may substitute for education requirement.
