What are the responsibilities and job description for the Maintenance Mechanic 2nd Class position at TCF?
Description of Primary Duties for Open Position:
- Support maintenance technicians in diagnosing and repairing equipment and building repairs not limited to roofing, wall repair, siding, window repair or replacement.
- Participate in scheduled preventive maintenance tasks to ensure equipment operates efficiently.
- Adhere to safety protocols and regulations while performing maintenance tasks and using tools, including but not limited to Food Safety Guidelines.
- Assist in conducting inspections of machinery and systems to identify issues or maintenance needs.
- Help maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and inspections.
- Assist in organizing and maintaining tools and equipment, ensuring they are in good working order.
- Engage in training programs to learn about maintenance practices, safety procedures, and relevant technologies.
- Developing a mindset of continuous improvement throughout the organization.
- Encouraging employee engagement and collaboration.
- Understand the core principles of Lean.
- Identify and eliminate waste in processes.
- Implement continuous improvement practices.
- Foster a culture of efficiency and accountability.
- Work alongside experienced maintenance staff to gain knowledge and skills while contributing to team efforts.
- Operate forklift, scissor lift, and yard lift.
- Fabrication and welding (ARC, TIG, MIG) of various stands and platforms, handrails, steps/stairs, conveyers, and drivers.
- General housekeeping ensuring area is thoroughly cleaned upon maintenance completion.
- Troubleshooting.
- Participate in lean events & practices.
- Learning how to operate bean room equipment & setup/teardown.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Willingness to listen & learn, basic mechanical aptitude.
- Willingness to work in various environments & conditions.
- Basic communication skills for reporting issues & following instructions.
- Must have basic knowledge and skills in mechanical and building maintenance.
- Must have own tools.
- Must be able to read prints and manuals.
- This job may include any maintenance job in the plant.
- Must be willing to work hours requires to complete tasks. Flexibility to work different shifts, nights and weekends.
- Basic knowledge of electrical.
- Must be able to lift 100 lbs.
- Must be reliable, punctual, and have good attendance.
- Demonstrate safety and proper use of tools and equipment.
- Work in a team environment.
- STANDING - This position requires about 6 hours of standing per shift, with around 2 hours walking, and about 2 hours in which the employee may sit.
- PACE OF JOB - The pace of this job is set by the speed of the conveyor line and is not considered to be a quick pace.
- LIFTING - A significant amount of lifting is required in this job position. The maximum amount lifted is around 60 lbs. with the average lift being around 30 lbs. with a lifting frequency of 400 times per hour. Lifting heights vary from 4 inches above the floor to 6 feet above the floor.
- TWISTING while carrying heavy loads is required in this job position at a rate of200-225 times per hour for about 4 hours per shift.
- PUSH/PULL activities of about 30 lbs. average weight and involving around 4 hours per shift.
- HAND/WRIST use is essential with 2-3 hours each shift requiring fine hand/wrist movements, pinching/gripping activities and repetitive twisting and bending of the wrist.
- ELBOWS and SHOULDER use is required for 2 to 3 hours per day in the stacking portion of the job.
- KNEES - Work on the knees is not essential for this job but a fair amount of squatting is required for about 1 hour per shift at a rate of 400-500 times per hour.
- CLIMBING is minimal on this job with a 1-2 foot climb 4 times per shift.
- WALKING DISTANCE for a shift is estimated to be around 2 miles.
- VISION - 20/40 or better required with or without correction.
- COLOR VISION - Normal color vision required.
- HEARING - Hearing better than 40 Db threshold level in at least one ear is expected.
- Use proper food safety PPE.
- Ensure that pre-packaged products are free from any foreign objects/materials.
- General housekeeping of area.
- Ensure proper product code and good package seals.
