Job Description

Preferred Qualifications:

We are seeking a highly experienced Director of Global Trade Finance Operations who is an expert in international and domestic Trade Finance business, particularly in managing risk and execution of trade finance transactions for Fortune 1000 global multinational and US corporates. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of Stand-By Letters of Credit and Guarantees, Documentary Letters of Credit, and Documentary Collections. As we expand our US operations, this seasoned leader will spearhead the implementation of our strategy and contribute to our global success. They must demonstrate a proven track record as an effective leader, exhibiting exceptional people and relationship management skills, possess profound knowledge of US Antiboycott laws, US Sanctions laws and US AML laws and regulations, the ICC rules applicable to Trade Finance transactions (i.e., ISP98, UCP600 /eUCP, URDG758, URC 522 /eURC , URR725), US laws applicable to letters of credit (i.e. article 5 of the major US States' UCC (Uniform Commercial Code)). Staying current on industry trends, changes in legal precedent and judgments related to trade finance, and technology in both the United States and international markets is essential.

The Director will strongly partner with the Front Office team on the US Trade Finance expansion strategy, advising to the business as well as internal stakeholders in Compliance, AML and Risk Management to ensure the proper support structure, internal controls and technology is in place to succeed. They must challenge our current operational footprint and allocation of resources to ensure our operations are scalable within the US and globally, ensuring we continue to deliver a legendary customer experience to our clients. With a strong regulatory and legal background, they will be expected to work with stakeholders on new product offerings, implementation of new processes and operating models as well as advising on structuring complex transactions, ensuring we are compliant with all local and international laws and regulations.

Innovation is central to the role; the successful candidate should have strong experience in building out a team, process design and process optimization, speed to execution is paramount in our ability to attract and maintain clients in this highly competitive environment. They must have broad experience with the technology available in the Trade Finance industry globally and experience implementing and integrating new technologies into existing ecosystems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and execution of the US operations support strategy for global trade finance.
  • Manage a team of trade finance professionals, providing leadership, guidance, and support.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders and external partners.

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness.

  • Develop and implement trade finance strategies to optimize cash flow, minimize risk, and support business growth.
  • Evaluate and recommend trade finance solutions to mitigate risks and improve efficiency in international trade activities.
  • Provide guidance, and support to trade finance team members, ensuring adherence to compliance regulations and internal policies.
  • Conduct training and development programs for trade finance team members to enhance their expertise in trade finance to align with business demand and direction.
  • Assess team skills and capabilities and continuously look for ways to enhance the value delivered.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders such as sales, compliance, and risk to support trade finance needs for various business transactions.
  • Stay up to date on current industry trends and technologies used in the United States and international markets.
  • Mentor and develop staff, promoting a culture of excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure appropriate escalation protocol is in place and operating losses are reported appropriately.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in global trade finance operations with a focus on United States Trade Finance.
  • In-depth knowledge of Stand-By Letters of Credit and Guarantees, Documentary Letters of Credit, Documentary Collections, and Trade Loans.
  • Subject matter expertise to advise on structure complex deals and ability to identity and communicate the structure, compliance and credit risk to operations and partners.
  • Proficiency in trade finance rules and regulations, AML and compliance, Sanctions, Antiboycott requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Strong leadership and people management skills with a proven track record of building and leading high-performing teams.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Experience in developing and implementing operational strategies to support business growth.
  • Proficiency in navigating complex organizational structures and driving change initiatives.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements and industry best practices in trade finance operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to evolving market trends and technologies.
  • Experience in implementing and integrating new technologies into existing infrastructure.
  • Prior experience in process optimization and design.
  • Fluent in Spanish would be an asset.

Certifications

  • Certificate for Documentary Credit Specialist (CDCS)
  • Certificate for Specialist in demand Guarantees (CSDG), would be an asset.
  • Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialists (ACAMS), would be an asset.

Depth & Scope

  • Coordinates data processing capability related to maintaining operational efficiency with internal technology group.
  • Ensures that system hardware and software provides accurate and reliable service in support of division operations and that disaster-recovery plans and procedures are established and tested
  • Resolves broad operational issues and coordinates activities and processes across lines of business and operations segments
  • Develops and analyzes procedures to enhance unit and/or product-related activity
  • Responsible for budget/expense management, reporting and forecasting for areas managed
  • Ensures proper communication and compliance of company and regulatory policies affecting areas managed
  • Establishes, develops, and reports metrics for Operations areas in order to evaluate quality and efficiency of the operations units and staff in the performance of their job functions
  • Ensures gaps are identified and operational capacity and readiness are incorporated
  • Maintains knowledge of current developments in the insurance industry particularly as they impact operations best practices, including regulatory issues, guidelines and technology changes
  • Evaluates the impact of current trends and events on division activities, alerts staff to developments and develops recommendations for consideration with executive management in reviewing policies and procedures

Education & Experience

  • Bachelors degree or progressive work experience in addition to experience below
  • 7 Years of related experience
  • Highly organized with excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Leadership and presentation skills required
  • Supervisory experience required
  • Management skills, with ability to coach, train and motivate staff effectively
  • Ability to initiate and coordinate projects involving multiple departments
  • Strong understanding of technology applications related to operational procedures
