JOB PURPOSE :
The Substitute Teacher will be under general supervision of assigned locations. The Substitute Teacher will deliver high quality Early Childhood Development services to children enrolled in programs, including educational, social, physical, nutritional and psychological development of children under their care. Communicates with parents on their child’s individual progress and maintains records of attendance and educational achievement. Plans lessons, serves meals, and ensures healthy and safe learning environment for children.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES :
Responsible for planning and implementing classroom lessons, conducting meetings and conferences with parents, coordinating activities and events for children and parents, interacting with the public and providing customer service by phone, email and in person, preparing correspondence, reports, records and other paperwork required by the early childhood education program.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES OF THE POSITION INCLUDE :
- Implement daily classroom lesson plans in accordance with curriculum plan
- Supervise children while at the site
- Conduct / Support / Assist with safety checks and ensure a safe learning environment
- Prepare breakfast and serve prepared meals for children
- Clean and sanitize food areas (including dishwashing as needed)
- Help children practice good hygiene, including personal cleanliness and diapering, as needed
- Plan and execute classroom lessons and activities for children
- Conduct / Support / Assist with learning and developmental assessments of children
- Organize and lead physical education activities for children
- Serve as an interpreter for parents who do not speak English
- Conduct / support / assist teacher-parent conferences and home visits, if necessary
- Maintain records of enrollment, attendance, achievement and other required paperwork, both manual and digital.
- Schedule, support, and follow through with the developmental screening and ongoing assessment of infants’ and toddlers’ motor, language, social, cognitive, perceptual, and emotional skills (including but not limited to DRDP-2015 IT, ASQ-3, ASQ : SE-2, etc.)
- Set up classrooms for various purposes; Organize and maintain instructional and program supplies
- Perform diaper changing for children as needed
- Prep meals for family style meal service as needed
- Supervise Teacher Assistants and provide performance feedback and coaching to aid their development
- Willing to travel to various school locations ( must be able to travel a minimum of 10 miles)
Requirements :
QUALIFICATIONS : This Position requires an experienced pre-school teacher with knowledge of early childhood education, child developmental theory and practice. Must be a team player with outstanding interpersonal skills, good organizational skills, observational skills, written and oral communication skills. Basic computer skills desirable.
EXPERIENCE : Minimum 1 year experience as a pre-school teacher, aide or assistant, preferably in a Head Start program. Must be at least 18 years old. Must Show proof of Department of Justice clearance to work with children prior to the start of employment. Livescan must be associated with California Community Care Licensing.

DEMANDS : The working conditions and physical demands of this position will be those that must be met to successfully perform the essential duties of the position. The physical environment the incumbent will work in is typically a pre-school environment with moderate noise levels that would be expected in that type of work environment. Outdoor and indoor supervision of playgrounds / workplace for on-going periods occurs regularly. Lift and carry at least 25 lbs or more. Maintain visual of children, hear, communicate, speak, comprehend, walk, sit, kneel, crawl, carry, push, pull, activities indoor and outdoor as needed in an environment with children and adults.
