BASIC RESPONSIBILITIES
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- To teach basic, fundamental skills; develops advanced skills.
- To develop positive personality traits in students, such as self-esteem, confidence, punctuality and loyalty.
- To instill character in students; a sense of fair play and a positive attitude toward winning and losing.
- To provide opportunities that will allow the program to serve as a laboratory where students may cope with problems and handle situations similar to those encountered under conditions prevailing in the contemporary world.
- To be knowledgeable of rules and regulations concerning his/her sport, and changes that occur.
- To assist Activities Director with proper registration of athletes at beginning of the season, collecting fees.
- To explain all regulations to team prior to each season, including the Good Conduct policy.
- To clarify to athletes the letter award policy.
- To select and instruct team managers on proper care of equipment, facilities, and other duties assigned.
- To check arrangements for all bus trips with Activities Director.
- To organize and schedule practice sessions on a regular basis.
- To apply discipline in a firm and positive manner.
- To emphasize safety precautions and use accepted training and injury procedures.
- To report outcome of contest to the media.
- Encouraged to develop a youth program.
- The head coach of a sport will be involved in the hiring process of assistant coaches when deemed necessary by the Activities Director or designated administrator.
- To conduct oneself and teams in an ethical manner during practice and in contests and while representing the District.
- To directly supervise or designate a supervisor of all dressing rooms and lock up all facilities at the close of each practice or contest.
- To accompany the team to all interscholastic activities away and be the first in attendance at home events.
- (Middle School level only): follows a “no-cut” philosophy, allowing each student to participate.
- Obey decisions of referees and officials.
- To set example of exemplary behavior at all times.
- To cooperate with teaching staff; observes eligibility requirements for participating students.
- To record attendance and performance of each student.
- To check equipment out and in, keeping records of damage and losses.
- To recommend equipment and supplies budget to Activities Director.
- To submit recommendations for the following year to the Activities Director.
- To maintain records of team and individual accomplishments and submit a copy to the Activities Director.
- To develop and maintains an effective level of communication with appropriate personnel.
- To attend professional meetings; keeps abreast of new development in the sport.
- To undergo performance evaluation by administration on a periodic basis.
- To maintain endorsement/authorization through meetings, workshops, and courses.
- To display exceptional leadership and communication skills.
- To display skill in organization, problem solving, and conflict management.
- To handle stresses and pressures from parents and fans.
- To arrive and depart from the building as scheduled.
- To be well organized and professional in fulfilling the responsibilities of job.
- To greet all students, peers, and staff courteously.
- To dress appropriately for the position and work required.
- To demonstrate a positive attitude toward school, students and job and to communicate the same to the community.
- To treat all students, faculty, and staff courteously and to cooperate with and work in a courteous manner with co-workers and other personnel.
- To accept constructive criticism and suggestions and to seek to improve each performance responsibly.
- To maintain confidentiality in the school operation.
- To adhere to applicable state and federal laws, rules, and regulations, board policies and administrative rules.
- To assume such other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the activities director.
