Team Elmer's, an employee-owned heavy construction company, comprises five divisions - asphalt, excavation, concrete, aggregate, and crane and rigging. Our Traverse City, Michigan-based company proudly employs more than 500 skilled professionals and operates out of 15 Michigan locations.
We are currently seeking to fill an opening for a Human Resources Director . This position oversees employee and labor relations, recruiting, performance management, compliance with employment laws, benefits administration, communications, and other various Human Resource functions.
Duties and Responsibilities :
- Administer, direct, and review employee benefit programs; manage the design and development of tools to assist employees in benefits selection; prepare and distribute written information required for benefits administration.
- Fulfill all reporting requirements of all relevant government rules and regulations.
- Manages FMLA, and maintains employee medical files and filing system in partnership with other Managers.
- Researches understands, and ensures DOT driver and driver's file compliance.
- Maintains the employee HRIS system software; complies and distributes reports as needed.
- Maintain records and compile statistical reports concerning personnel-related data such as hires, terminations, transfers, performance appraisals, and absenteeism rates.
- Conduct exit interviews to identify reasons for employee termination. Track and record this data to later analyze.
- Ensures annual updates to the employee handbooks occur, and are distributed and tracked.
- Ensures planning, monitoring, and appraisal of employee work results by training managers to coach and discipline employees; oversees the 30-60 day and annual performance review process.
- Handles employee relations; schedules management conferences with employees; hears and resolves employee grievances; counsels employees and supervisors.
- Prepares or causes to be prepared timely file documentation related to employee conversations, discipline, reviews, or other items necessary to be put into writing on behalf of Managers.
- Improves manager and employee performance by identifying and clarifying problems; evaluating potential solutions; implementing selected solutions; and coaching and counseling managers and employees.
- Oversees and manages On the Job Training (OJT) compliance.
- Develops methods to improve employment policies, processes, and practices, and recommend management changes.
