EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- 1 Year of experience in a medical setting
- 2 years of medical office experience in a busy physician group practice experience
- High school diploma or GED - must have
- 2 years of community college/business school training. Preferred but not required
- Additional course work in business or health care related subjects. Preferred but not required
- Completion of ICD-9-CM, CPT coding, and/or Medical Terminology courses. Preferred but not required

Health Information Management Specialist
Duties:
- Understands State and Federal Release of Information laws and regulations.
- Documents in EMR all release of records and distribution information.
- Ensures accurate printing of records for all requests.
- Checks daily schedules to ensure receipt of all records and follows up on records not received, including transcription and dictation.
- Notifies Supervisor or Manager of delinquencies in the completion of charge sheets and dictation.
- Ensures the patient name, encounter number and medical record number are documented on records.
- Checks each patient record to ensure the chart contains all results from previously ordered studies, procedures and tests.
- Scans in all incoming documents to the patient chart in EMR, timely and accurately.
- Abstracts records per protocol.
- Identifies needs of co-workers and helps out to ensure scanning etc. does not fall behind as a department.
- Maintain confidentiality of records, patients, employee or medical center information at all times. Ensure all information and conversations regarding patients are secure from general public access.
- Participate in clinic/department performance improvement activities to ensure the development and implementation of processes that support quality patient care and effective work performance.
- Participate in all mandatory staff meetings and in-services and training programs to ensure continued understanding of all departmental policies, procedures and performance improvement processes.
