The Technical Writer develops, creates, and maintains complex technical documentation for naval systems, with a specialized focus on Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals (IETMs) using S1000D standards. This position applies advanced XML coding skills, content management expertise, and in-depth knowledge of technical publication specifications to create high-quality, user-friendly technical documentation that meets DOD and NAVSEA requirements.
This position is contingent upon contract award. Employment will be subject to TSI securing the contract.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Develop and maintain technical documentation using XML coding for electronic Technical Manual conversions
- Create and publish S1000D Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals (IETMs) using specialized content management software
- Apply ATA/ASD S1000D technical publications specifications, including proper tagging methods
- Develop comprehensive data module requirements lists following S1000D standards
- Implement illustration control numbering systems consistent with technical publication requirements
- Analyze complex technical information and convert it into clear, accessible documentation
- Collaborate with subject matter experts, engineers, and program managers to gather and validate technical content
- Ensure all documentation meets DOD, Navy, and S1000D standards and specifications
- Conduct quality reviews of technical documentation before publication
- Develop and maintain documentation templates and style guides
- Train and mentor junior technical writers on S1000D standards and XML coding practices
- Stay current with evolving technical documentation standards and specifications
EDUCATION
Bachelor's level degree in English, Technical Communication, Engineering, or related field
Experience:
- Seven (7) years or more of experience in XML coding requirements for electronic Technical Manual conversions
- Recent experience (within the last 2 years) with the content management software used in creating and publishing S1000D Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals (IETMs)
- Seven (7) years or more of experience with ATA/ASD S1000D technical publications specification, specifically with tagging, data module requirements list development, and illustration control numbering
REQUIRED SKILLS
