Piping Lead Engineer/ Technical Lead – Job Description
Summary:
Senior Piping personnel for LNG, other transitionary and green energy projects located in both domestic and international markets. Candidate must be proficient in the use of 2D (AutoCAD, MicroStation) for early development of plant layout and the use of 3D design review tools for commenting on activities being carried out in the model by others. Preferably have tertiary training in engineering, a proven history successfully leading large FEED as well as detail design projects across the multiple offices.
Overall responsibility for the development of all piping engineering and design activities on assigned projects, including material specification, pipe stress equipment layout and detail design within the 3D model among other activities. Responsible for estimating projects, track progress, develop equipment and piping design including equipment layout and nozzle orientation where applicable using process information (PFD, P&ID) as the basis to support project deliverable requirement, and answer requests-for-information (RFIs). Develop project-specific piping specifications. Assist projects in obtaining Technical Standards Deviation Approval. Discuss all pertinent problems encountered during design stage.
Key Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will be responsible for the entire piping scope on assigned projects, including work done in overseas offices and by all subsections of the piping discipline including, stress analysis, material specification, MTO, design and CAD administration.

Key Responsibilities:

Typically, this will include
- Developing work hour estimates, plans and budgets for bids as well as for assigned projects
- Track and report progress during project execution
- Responsibility for the development of equipment and piping design including equipment layout and nozzle orientation where applicable using process information (PFD, P&ID)
- Supervising and reviewing work of the design team, including those in overseas centers
- Interpreting project design standards and issuing directives/design highlights to ensure consistency in application
- Coordinate piping documentation and design issues with project managers and other design disciplines. Review vendor drawings, equipment and pipe modeling
- Work with other departments as well as disciplines to resolve design conflicts (e.g. pipe routing/support and or clashes with other model objects).
- Planning internal and external model reviews
- Supervise/mentor junior and intermediate engineers and designers
- Ensure review and check of engineering and design deliverables
- Check and release various piping deliverables/documents for use/implementation by downstream parties in the project execution workflow
- Approve and professionally seal piping engineering deliverables where applicable and within both the engineer’s scope of practice as well as jurisdiction.
Motivated, creative, quality focused applicants with:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering
- a minimum of 15 years piping layout, design and/or engineering experience in the refinery/petrochemical industry
- Strong supervisory skills with a minimum of five years’ experience in a similar role.
- Proficient in the use of Intergraph SmartPlant Review software
- Strong knowledge of Intergraph S3D
- Good communication and presentation skills
- Willingness to travel overseas to centers and other locations as necessary to support the project.
