Job Summary
The Tier 3 System Engineer plays a critical role in designing and executing infrastructure modernization efforts—particularly focused on migrating on-premises services to the cloud. The Tier III Systems Engineer is responsible for analyzing existing infrastructure, identifying discrete services offered by legacy servers, and designing appropriate migration or decommissioning strategies. The Tier III Systems Engineer is the architect behind how systems evolve from physical servers to cloud-native or hybrid solutions.
This is a senior technical role requiring a minimum of 7 years of hands-on experience in infrastructure, systems, and cloud migrations.
Responsibilities:
· Lead the design and execution of on-prem to cloud migrations, including service mapping, migration strategy, execution, and server decommissioning.
· Evaluate existing servers and identify discrete services or workloads that can be decoupled and migrated to modern platforms (cloud or hybrid).
· Provide advanced support for Microsoft technologies, including Windows Server, Active Directory, MS Entra, Exchange Online, Group Policy, SharePoint Online, File Services, and related infrastructure.
· Configure and maintain SAN storage solutions, support storage migrations and best practices for data integrity and retention.
· Troubleshoot and resolve complex system issues across virtual and physical infrastructure, including networking protocols (VPN, DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP).
· Provide guidance and implementation support for Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, and other cloud identity solutions.
· Collaborate with internal teams and clients to plan, design, and execute infrastructure projects, including hardware refreshes and cloud enablement initiatives.
· Assist in image deployments, hardware replacement, virus/malware removal, and endpoint hardening.
· Act as the primary technical lead during client calls, working alongside Customer Relations Managers (CRMs) and project teams to provide expert guidance, communicate technical solutions, and ensure successful implementation of infrastructure rollouts and migrations.
· Participate in on-call rotations and respond to critical incidents and system outages as needed.
Qualifications:
- 7 years of experience in IT infrastructure roles with significant time spent designing and implementing migrations.
- Strong expertise in Microsoft infrastructure: Windows Server, Exchange Online, Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS/DHCP, Intune, MS Entra/Azure AD.
- Microsoft 365 Certified: Administrator Expert, Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert, or equivalent
- Solid working knowledge of SAN technologies and storage architecture.
- Experience with VMware and Hyper-V virtualization strategies.
- Ability to write and troubleshoot PowerShell, Python, or Bash scripts for automation and system administration.
- Familiarity with Linux systems is a plus but not required.
- Expertise in Apple platforms is desired.
- Experience working as Managed Service Providers (MSPs) or the K-12 education sector is a plus but not required.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Work Environment & Excpectations:
· Full-time role, Monday through Friday, 8 AM – 5 PM.
· Some flexibility required for project rollouts, upgrades, or emergencies after hours.
· May be part of an on-call rotation for escalated support needs.
