General Summary: The Field Technology Lead will spearhead the implementation and management of advanced field technology systems across all divisions at Superior Bowen. This role involves driving innovation in construction technology, ensuring precision in operations, and leading the integration of key technologies like GPS, GNSS, telematics, and 3D machine control systems. The Field Technology Lead will support field operations, ensuring the seamless deployment of technology across multiple sites to enhance performance and efficiency. Additionally, this role will include oversight of Intelligent Compaction (IC) and Infrared Scanning (IR) systems, ensuring accurate setup, maintenance, and troubleshooting to optimize data collection and quality control in field operations. Key Responsibilities: Technology Leadership: * Lead the development, implementation, and ongoing management of GPS and GNSS systems, ensuring accurate grading and site layout. * Oversee the utilization of Automated Machine Guidance (AMG) and 3D machine control systems for earthmoving, grading, and paving operations. * Develop metrics to track improvements in job cost with implementation of the system. * Work as needed with our estimating teams in both Siteworks and Paving divisions to identify opportunities to improve job production through the use of automated systems and other opportunities in bidding. * Own the telematics implementation, managing real-time equipment data and optimizing fleet usage. * Champion the adoption and use of stringless paving and milling technology to improve project accuracy and efficiency. * Integrate digital models to enhance precision in grading and construction, facilitating better project planning and coordination. * Manage the deployment, crew training opportunities, and use of robotic total stations to ensure precise measurements and layout on complex job sites. * Lead the implementation of stringless concrete technology, driving improvements in concrete placement accuracy and efficiency. * Install and configure IC and IR hardware on rollers and other equipment to ensure optimal performance and data accuracy. * Ensure software updates and firmware upgrades are current for IC and IR systems. Advanced Modeling Oversight * Lead the coordination and production of digital models for grading and construction accuracy, especially in areas where GPS precision may be limited. * Work with project managers, superintendents, and GPS technicians in the Siteworks division to maintain and update project models throughout the individual project lifecycle, ensuring timely updates for field crews as plans and specifications change. * Oversee the implementation of Intelligent Compaction (IC) and Infrared Scanning (IR) systems, ensuring accurate data collection and quality control for optimal pavement construction. * Calibrate sensors and equipment to maintain accuracy in compaction and temperature readings for optimal field results. * Oversee the integration and use of total stations and other advanced tools to enhance grading and site modeling for Siteworks and asphalt paving projects where applicable. Collaboration and Training: * Act as a bridge between the tech teams and field personnel, providing training and support on new technologies and systems. * Participate in project meetings as needed and collaborate with team leaders to optimize project outcomes through the use of advanced technology. * Conduct field technology onboarding as needed for new team members and ensure continuous learning opportunities are identified for the field team in both field and office settings. * Train operators and technicians on IC and IR system operation and troubleshooting basics to ensure seamless field operations. Operational Management: * Manage the deployment of field technology, ensuring timely installation, maintenance, and updates of systems such as telematics, GPS, and robotic total stations in coordination with our Operations division. * Ensure all field technology implementations align with Superior Bowen’s operational and safety standards. * Monitor the use of technology in the field, providing troubleshooting and support as needed to ensure continuous operation. * Assist the Operations division with the use of Zonar systems to monitor and react to key KPIs and track the ROI of the system. * Troubleshoot technical issues on-site to prevent delays, addressing software bugs, sensor malfunctions, or connectivity issues promptly. Standards and Compliance: * Develop and maintain company standards for the use of field technology, ensuring all systems comply with safety and operational guidelines. * Provide regular feedback and reports to executive teams regarding the performance of technological systems and recommend areas for improvement.
