TEGNA is looking for a dynamic, business-minded Group HR Director for a great opportunity supporting an innovative media company. The Group HR Director leads the HR function for TEGNA's West region, to include approximately 1,300 employees across television stations in Denver, Boise, Phoenix, Portland, Sacramento, San Diego, Seattle, and Spokane. This includes regular communication with all HR Business Partners and station General Managers in the region on matters such as culture, leadership, performance management, talent strategy and talent priorities, succession planning and effective employee relations. The Group HR Director will be instrumental in facilitating an employee-oriented, high performing, diverse and inclusive workplace culture and must provide quality leadership to the HR Business Partners and General Managers across the region.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the HR function for a regional group of stations, usually 7-10.
- Primary HR Business Partner support to one station (and others temporarily as needed).
- Handle complex and/or sensitive day-to-day people issues.
- Strengthen management capabilities by providing guidance and coaching to managers and employees on the full range of people issues including employee advocacy/engagement, employee relations, performance management, career development, talent assessment, acquisition and retention and workplace investigations.
- Serve as a creative and strategic partner to station leadership, aligning human capital needs with company objectives.
- Anticipate and respond to changing business needs and serve as a thought partner to the business.
- Influence lasting change in assigned businesses by serving as a change advocate on company-wide strategies and initiatives.
- With General Managers and HR business partners, champion employee and organizational development including talent development, succession planning, performance management programs, skills gap analysis, and individual career development
- Partner with Legal, VP/GM and station leadership on employee relations and labor issues .
- Champion diversity and inclusion; drive and support efforts to promote a diverse and inclusive work culture
- Mentor/coach the HR business partner team to build internal HR capabilities and ensure long-term success of the function and the business.
- Work collaboratively with the broader Human Resources team on special projects and initiatives and best practice sharing.
- Effectively communicate TEGNA's value proposition to external candidates and serve as a brand ambassador for the company.
- Provide excellent customer service in terms of responsiveness, time management and communication.
- React productively to change, effectively work at an operational level with multiple stakeholders, and act quickly and confidently under pressure.
- Understand and adhere to local, state and federal employment-related laws.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree with a concentration in Human Resources or related field. Master's degree or HR certification is preferred.
- Minimum of 10-years of HR generalist experience is required, with heavy emphasis on leadership development, succession planning, employee relations and HR business partnering with leaders.
- Demonstrated ability to quickly establish effective relationships, collaborate, lead and influence.
- Record of success advising managers on the full range of HR/people issues.
- Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment and deliver results for multiple stakeholders.
- A working knowledge of state and federal employment laws.
- Strong ethical standards and integrity.
