Purpose
The Director of Continuous Improvement will collaborate with Directors and Regional Production Managers to design and implement enterprise-wide initiatives to enhance safety, quality and operational efficiency across construction materials operations. This role will support a culture of continuous improvement and process improvement methodologies by collaborating with regional managers to improve safety and quality, reduce waste, and optimize production and delivery processes. The ideal candidate will work in partnership with operational leadership to influence measurable results while helping to build a sustainable culture of continuous improvement across operations. Success in this role requires building solid relationships, as the Director must partner with regional managers who maintain direct authority for implementing changes within their respective areas.

Focus & Scope
Essential duties and responsibilities, i.e. those which are basic, necessary, and an integral part of the job, are indicated below:

Leadership
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive continuous improvement strategy aligned with Teichert Material’s safety and operational objectives
  • Coordinate or lead cross-functional teams in identifying opportunities for process improvement and operational excellence with input from Regional Production Managers
  • Champion the continuous improvement culture throughout the organization
  • Report key metrics and improvement outcomes to executive leadership
Process Improvement
  • Design and implement continuous improvement programs across production facilities
  • Facilitate value stream mapping and process analysis to identify inefficiencies and improvement opportunities
  • Develop standardized work processes to ensure consistency and quality
  • Lead root cause analysis for systemic issues and implement sustainable solutions

Training & Development
  • Build organizational capability by developing and supporting delivery of training on continuous improvement methodologies
  • Coach and mentor leaders and project teams on problem-solving techniques and improvement tools
  • Create a framework for knowledge sharing and best practice implementation across sites
Performance Management
  • Augment existing and create new key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure plant processes and effectiveness of improvement initiatives
  • Develop and implement systems to track and report continuous improvement results
  • Lead regular reviews of improvement projects to ensure progress and accountability
Innovation & Technology
  • Evaluate and implement new technologies to enhance production and delivery processes
  • Collaborate with engineering, environmental and DTS to integrate technology solutions that support continuous improvement
  • Support development of digital dashboards and visualization tools to monitor real-time performance
  • Identify automation opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce variation

Role Qualifications & Requirements

Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Operations Management, Business or related field experience
Experience and Industry Expertise:
  • 10 years of experience in various operations roles with 5 years leading continuous improvement initiatives from outside the company
  • Proven track record of successfully implementing large-scale improvement programs
  • Understanding of the aggregate, ready-mix and/or construction industry is desired

Specific Job Requirements:
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
  • Proven ability to build solid relationships and build trust with key stakeholders considering needs, challenges, and objectives
  • Exceptional leadership abilities with experience managing cross-functional teams and other leaders within Materials
  • Outstanding communication, written and presentation skills with ability to convey clear intent
  • Strong change management capabilities
  • Analytical mindset with excellent problem-solving abilities
  • Aligns organizational resources through influence and direction to accomplish desired outcomes
  • Regular travel to operation facilities (30-50%) with occasional evening or weekend work to support critical improvement initiatives

Equipment Used, Physical Demands, and Work Environment

Equipment Used:
  • General office equipment, telephone, automobile, personal protective equipment (i.e. safety glasses, hearing protection) when visiting plants.
Physical Demands & Work Environment: The physical demands and work environment characteristics are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.   • Physical: Sitting for long periods of time working on the computer or attending meetings. Job site visits require walking on uneven ground, steep slopes, and exposure to extreme temperature and/or humidity.
  • Work Environment: Typical office environment with adequate temperatures and lighting, low levels of noise. Demands of meeting tight deadlines. Exposed to the conditions of job sites which can include loud noise, dust, fumes, and extreme weather conditions prevalent at the time. May work various hours, including early mornings, dusk or evenings.

BASE SALARY RANGE:
$125,000-$185,000
The range displayed reflects the range the company reasonable expects to pay for the position. The actual base salary is subject to variation due to the role, level, geographic location, relevant education, training, or experience, among other factors.
