Job Description:
The Controls Engineer works closely with plant and corporate engineering teams to improve plant and equipment efficiency. Key responsibilities include developing new products and processes, troubleshooting electronic equipment issues, and coordinating maintenance work with plant staff. The Controls Engineer also performs PLC, HMI, and PC programming tasks, creates and maintains electrical drawings, and trains maintenance personnel on electronic equipment and processes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and recommend equipment improvements and manufacturing methods to enhance quality and efficiency.
- Coordinate mechanical and electrical system modifications with external vendors, maintenance personnel, and facility engineering manager.
- Maintain system documentation, including mechanical and electrical prints, software documentation, and backups.
- Design and implement automated systems from concept to production launch.
- Support maintenance personnel in diagnosing software and electrical system problems.
- Work with multiple PLC and electrical controlled automated systems.
- Design and implement human machine interface (HMI) hardware and software for automated systems.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in applying engineering technologies to manufacturing processes, with a focus on automation, programming, vision systems, and control systems.
- Experience in an engineering field within a manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency in PLC programming and personal computer Windows applications, including Microsoft Project, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and AutoCAD.
- Working knowledge of control systems, PLC programming, and systems integration.
- Technical leadership and long-term technical planning skills.
Physical Requirements:
The position requires excellent health and physical condition. Prolonged standing, walking, bending, stooping, lifting, and carrying up to 50 lbs. may be required. Knowledge of chemical use specific to the job is necessary, with some exposure to fumes. Telephone usage and ability to use a computer keyboard are also required. Physical ability to operate a fork truck and company vehicles is necessary. Good eye-hand-foot coordination and ability to work in close proximity to high-temperature molds (290°F-320°F) are required.
