Job Overview
The Music Director shall perform service for at least 2 hours weekly, which is divided up by 1 hour for rehearsals, 30 minutes for early arrival, and then approximately 1 hour for performance.
The Music Director shall perform on Sunday at the 11:00 am worship service. This will normally last one hour, but not more than an hour and a half. Rehearsal shall typically be held on a different day from Sunday service.
In addition to the 2.5 weekly hours, there may be times that a total of 5 hours may be required if there are special services that require musical support. Special services include the Easter services and Christmas services.
Qualifications and Experience
- Read music and teach vocal music parts and harmony.
- Familiar with, and proficient at leading, a wide range of Contemporary Christian music including, but not limited to, current artists played on contemporary Christian radio stations, songs on the Church Copyright License, Inc. (CCLI), top popular Christian songs lists, and other similar sources.
- Must maintain a lifestyle consistent with the purpose of the Air Force Chaplain Corps, which is to support the free exercise of religion.
- Must have two or more years of experience as a worship leader and be proficient on piano, keyboard, and/or guitar.
- Must furnish a resume showing all education and experience including professional references.
Requirements
- Provide weekly rehearsals for the praise team (includes singers, musicians, sound tech, etc.) and a warm-up session prior to any worship to last at least one (1) hour in length. This time is typically a separate day other than Sunday.
- Provide weekly performances during the worship service to last at least one hour in length. The contractor shall arrive at the chapel facilities at least 30 minutes prior to scheduled services and be ready for worship no later than 5 minutes before the beginning of service.
- Shall, in conjunction with weekly rehearsals and performances, support the following special services to include rehearsal time: Good Friday, Easter Sunrise, Christmas Eve/Day and additional services as deemed necessary by Wing Chaplain, Worship Service Pastor or Protestant Chaplains.
- Provide/maintain a monthly schedule of music selections for coordination and approval by the Worship Service Pastor at least one (1) month in advance.
- Coordinate all special music to be performed at each service with the Worship Service Pastor. This includes solos, duets, adult choir, children’s choir, guest choirs, and guest musicians.
- Identify, submit, and coordinate Chapel Tithes and Offering Fund (CTOF) budget requests to support the music program to the Protestant Chaplain. The contractor will purchase approved items in accordance with local operating procedures. The contractor will confer with the service chaplain for additional guidance on operating procedures.
General Responsibilities
- Ensure all audio and visual equipment (microphones, stands, worship slides, etc.) are setup and tested prior to each performance.
- Monitor condition of music equipment and advise the Superintendent, Chapel Operations of any problems or needs.
- Verify the choir area is left clean after use by removing audio/visual equipment and restoring area to original configuration.
- Submit facility requests as required for rehearsals and special services.
- Open and secure the chapel facility used for choir/praise team activities when chapel staff members are not on duty as well as be responsible for the cleanliness of all facilities utilized in conjunction with the program/event.
- Maintain familiarity with current trends in worship.
- Provide all necessary sheet music to the volunteer choir members at least one (1) week in advance of rehearsals. These will be obtained using Church Copyright License, Inc. (CCLI). The license number and invitation to use Moody Chaplain Corps CCLI will be provided by chapel staff.
- Provide accompaniment and lead a variety of contemporary Christian music to include traditional, contemporary, praise, and gospel styles as coordinated with the service Chaplain/pastor. The contractor shall also be able to lead the music and the people in each one of the previously mentioned Christian music styles.
- Serve as an accompanist and worship leader for the choir/praise team as well as soloists, duets, quartets, etc. in conjunction with regular services and major Christian seasonal celebrations.
- Ensure lyrics are provided for congregants for all worship services via current worship program software/projector. If unavailable, he/she is responsible for providing printed handouts or bulletin inserts.
