General Description:
The Business Systems Specialist is responsible for supporting business intelligence capabilities by ensuring systems are configured properly, supporting end users and development teams, and bridging business context with data insight. This role will identify opportunities to streamline, and in some cases create solutions for, internal processes or reporting through automation by leveraging workflow or reporting tools. They should be able to execute job responsibilities independently and with the understanding of how output would affect and impact other operational areas.
The position requires a high level of customer service skills, professionalism with the ability to partner with others and build relationships to support the business. An ideal candidate will have the ability to multi-task responsibilities and requests, independently problem solve, effectively apply time management skills, possess effective communication skills, and is detail-oriented and organized in the manner they help others.
Responsibilities
General Responsibilities
- Partner and communicate effectively within the development, analyst teams, and end customers
- Maintain system configuration, hierarchies, and security that drive reporting systems
- Respond to cases, bugs and issues brought to attention in our issues management systems or through other notifications
- Provide testing support and facilitate user feedback for deliverables
- Provide ad hoc reporting and data support for end users
- Cross train and develop/mentor less experienced team members
- Monitor jobs and system processes to identify potential system issues
- Ensure work management systems are kept up to date with progress on projects and tasks
System and Data Administration
- Support architects and developers to create trusted sources of data and reporting
- Use SQL to update, insert, delete data in hierarchy tables to capture changes
- Monitor and audit business critical hierarchy and tables to ensure data consistency
- Maintain security groups used for access to data and reporting
- Support business with configuration of operational systems
- Create and update in-app queries to support access to live data
Development and QA Support
- Develop InfoPath, SharePoint, and/or Nintex solutions
- Actively participate in requirements definition and refinement, and provide consultation to ensure the correct solution is applied to the request
- Leverage reporting tools to automate standard reporting or data requests
- Establish project milestones and communication touchpoints with end customers
- Support testing through data validation and functional testing
- Perform minor troubleshooting on automation and root cause of operational deficiencies
Consultation / Education
- Drive adoption of BI products through continual education and seeking feedback on existing products
- Communicate and troubleshoot issues with the user community
- Provide change management support for enhancements or upgrades
- Seek feedback for opportunities to reduce, consolidate or simplify reporting and data
- Educate end users about data in business context between source systems, data warehouses, and data marts
Qualifications
Minimum Education/Experience/Abilities/Skills
- BS degree in computer sciences, software design, engineering, information systems, related field or comparable experience
- Experience with Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Access)
- Experience with Backoffice functions/processes (ideally PeopleSoft)
- Understand basic concepts of SQL and relational databases
- Experience with SharePoint, InfoPath, and Nintex forms a plus
- Experience with databases a plus (SQL Server 2014 and Oracle 12g )
- Exposure to reporting tools a plus (WebFocus, SSRS, Tableau, PowerBI)
