What are the responsibilities and job description for the Kauai Drop Technician position at TEKsystems?
*Overview:*
Our local customer is looking for Telecom Technicians for an ongoing project on island of Kauai. These techs will be pulling and terminating cable. They also must be able to lift at least 50lbs and be comfortable working on OSP projects. This is an excellent opportunity to learn the telecom trade and work on various projects that this customer executes on - i.e. commercial (Queen's, Department of energy, Hawaiian Telcom) and government projects (supporting the DoD).
*Qualifications:*
Seeking a candidate that is looking to get Telecom trade experience (Layer 1 fiber/cat5/cat6). If they have hands on labor experience and would like to learn the Telecom trade, manager is open to training.
* Ability to carry 50 lbs or more as the equipment and tools are heavy. For instance, their ladders are heavy and awkward to carry.
* Ability to pass a drug test and a valid drivers license.
*Job Duties/Responsibilities: *
* Splice fiber optic cables including both loose tube and ribbon optic cables.
* Construct a proper splice case, including but not limited to: grounding, bonding, isolation, slack storage and sealing.
* Read and interpret work orders, specifications, engineering drawings and/or cut sheets to determine work to be done in sequence of task.
* Perform work in accordance with industry standards.
* Be familiar with BICSI standards, read and follow design engineers' instructions and specifications, maintain the scope of work on the project and adhere to safety procedures.
* Interpret buried underground and aerial telecom facilities in records, on maps and in the field with clarity and detail and make recommendations for changes in running line or construction methodologies.
* Maintain inside and outside plant records during installation.
* Participate in engineering, permit and construction processes to support project contracts.
* Perform routine maintenance.
* Recognize and repair route issues including maintenance and hand hole cleanup, and sign placement.
* Connect wires and cables to terminals and attaches/detaches various kinds of hardware to wires, cables, buildings, or poles.
* Respond to and participate in emergency and outage situations that require heavy construction capabilities.
* Ensure that all work considers the safety of the customer and general public and compliance with all governmental orders.
* Able and willing to work outdoors and in inclement weather conditions.
* Complete daily production reports and As-Built documentation on prints.
*Work Environment:*
M-F 7-4. Working at various customer sites across the island of Kauai. Warehouse is near Lihue airport. From there will go to client sites to resolve tickets - average of 4-8 tickets daily depending on how large the specific requests are.
