What are the responsibilities and job description for the Linguist II position at TEKsystems?
Job Description:
The main function of a Linguist is to determine language and visual data needs for data-based model and product improvements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide linguistic expertise, especially in the areas of syntax, semantics, taxonomies, and NLU.
- Develop strategies for labeling visual and language data together.
- Create guidelines in support of labeling projects that allow vendor labelers to consistently label language, visual, and motion data at quality levels.
- Analyze labeling quality and adjust guidelines as necessary to ensure labeling quality and enforce labeling standards.
Required Skills:
- Knowledge of syntax, semantics, and taxonomies.
- Ability to work in ambiguous spaces and develop norms and processes.
- Knowledge of prescriptive writing and punctuation conventions for at least one language.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Knowledge in transcription and annotation systems, such as SAMPA, IPA, and ToBI.
Prioritised Hard Skills:
- Knowledge of syntax, semantics, pragmatics, corpus linguistics, and other areas of linguistics.
- Experience with SQL, spreadsheets, and other data tools.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
Desirable Skills:
- Programming experience, such as Python, PHP, or JavaScript.
- Bachelor's degree in linguistics, language technologies, computational linguistics, or a related field.
