Linguist II

Job Description:

The main function of a Linguist is to determine language and visual data needs for data-based model and product improvements.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide linguistic expertise, especially in the areas of syntax, semantics, taxonomies, and NLU.
• Develop strategies for labeling visual and language data together.
• Create guidelines in support of labeling projects that allow vendor labelers to consistently label language, visual, and motion data at quality levels.
• Analyze labeling quality and adjust guidelines as necessary to ensure labeling quality and enforce labeling standards.

Required Skills:

• Knowledge of syntax, semantics, and taxonomies.
• Ability to work in ambiguous spaces and develop norms and processes.
• Knowledge of prescriptive writing and punctuation conventions for at least one language.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Knowledge in transcription and annotation systems, such as SAMPA, IPA, and ToBI.

Prioritised Hard Skills:

• Knowledge of syntax, semantics, pragmatics, corpus linguistics, and other areas of linguistics.
• Experience with SQL, spreadsheets, and other data tools.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

Desirable Skills:

• Programming experience, such as Python, PHP, or JavaScript.
• Bachelor's degree in linguistics, language technologies, computational linguistics, or a related field.
