Job Summary
The Welding Field Engineer will report to the Lead Welding Field Engineer. This individual is responsible for supporting the implementation and maintenance of the site welding program and direct hire work activities for both Non-Destruct Exam (NDE) and Pre/Post-Welding Heat Treat (PWHT).
Must be willing to work a flexible schedule if required, including, but not limited to nightshift, split shift, or day shift. Work requires the physical ability to conduct field inspections including but not limited to: extensive walking in and around a construction site often in high heat and high humidity conditions, climbing ladders, climbing scaffolding, working on elevated platforms, working on uneven surfaces, and working in small or confined spaces. Some lifting may be required. Must have the ability to walk into and out of the project (enter/egress). Must be able to use appropriate standard issued Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) required for each assigned task (i.e. harness, life vest, lift buckets, etc.).

Major Responsibilities
- Support inspection activities using ITP and engineering drawings.
- Provide specialized welding & inspection support for construction to ensure construction meets all code and Bechtel procedures including those found in the welding control manual.
- Help manage the issue of weld filler materials for welders to meet Bechtel and Code requirements.
- Help plan NDE activities of welding and coordinate with construction and Bechtel LFWE to support the overall construction schedule.
- Help monitor welding qualification to ensure high quality welders are being tested and hired.
- Help maintain welder qualifications and welder stamps.
- Able to work extended work schedules and night shift as required to support the project execution plans and schedules.
- Demonstrate a personal commitment to safety.
- Provide leadership and takes personal accountability for site safety, environmental and health program.
- Provide technical assistance to the Lead Welding Field Engineer, discipline superintendents and crafts regarding Pre/PWHT, Welding, and NDE.
- Support and maintain Project Field Welder Testing program.
- Provide specialized welding engineering support to ensure construction meets all code and site requirements.
- Implementation of the project ES&H program and quality control program.
- Supporting the maintenance of calibrations as required for Pre/PWHT equipment.
- Working knowledge of our corporate Pre/PWHT Procedure (PHT-2) and other welding procedures/standards.
- Perform inspections and documentation of all welding, NDE, and Pre/PWHT activities in progress on a continuing basis.
- Prepares material requisitions and maintain inventory for all Pre/PWHT equipment and materials.
- Coordinate work activities and training of direct hire Pre/PWHT personnel.
- Support the crafts in meeting quality requirements in order to maintain cost and schedule.
- Verification of materials, workmanship, and specification/code requirements.
- Interface with the lead welding engineer for direction of work task assigned.
- Perform oversight of inspections and documentation of all subcontractor welding & NDE work in progress on a continuing basis which may also include preparing subcontractor daily reports.
- As requested, Trouble-shoot engineering design and resolve issues with engineering and/or fabricator.
- Coach lower-level engineers within the welding discipline to ensure employees’ and Bechtel's needs are accomplished to achieve project and Bechtel goals.
- Maintain weld inspection tracking system using Bechtel specific automation tools.
- Interface with the Lead Welding Engineer for direction of work assigned tasks.
Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 2-5 years of relevant experience or 6-9 years of relevant work experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
- A minimum 5 years of experience in direct hire welding and NDE on LNG projects.
- NDE Certs including PT, MT and LT (Vac Box).
- Knowledge of AWS, API, NFPA, AWWA, ASTM and ASNT codes, specifications, and standards.
- Heavy industrial direct hire construction experience commensurate with the type of work to be undertaken.
- Advanced knowledge and/or certifications in SMAW / GTAW / GMAW / FCAW.
- Intermediate understanding of Preheat/Post weld heat treatment of equipment and consumables.
- Knowledge of engineering and construction methods and processes customarily acquired over time through specialized instruction or practical experience.
- Demonstrated ability to motivate team members effectively & positively in a collaborative team environment.
- Demonstrated ability to problem-solve in high pressure situations.
- Experience on an LNG construction site along the U.S. Gulf Coast.
- Strong technical background and knowledge of all phases of LNG welding applications and methods, and non-destructive examination relating to LNG construction activities.
- Understanding of applicable Bechtel work processes including Standard Work Process Procedures.
- Advanced knowledge of Piping Design Drawings/Specifications and Teamwork’s/WITS.
- Must be certifiable by written examination to Bechtel's nondestructive examination requirements as NDE Level II Visual Examination.
- Knowledge and understanding of Bechtel's SWPP 4MP-T81-03701 Welding Program, 03708 Pre/Post Weld Heat Treatment and 03705 Welding & NDE Documentation.
- Familiarity with Bechtel Standard Applications (BSAPs) including Unifier, Aconex, DSCS, PTR, Agile, Navisworks, WITs, Teamwork’s, Arc Stryker, Pipe Fighter, and other automation tools which are used on Bechtel projects.
